im not knocking them, im just saying i think we have a collection of good backs, not a collection of great backs that could start anywhere in the country. There is a committee approach because there is no great standout there.

Well I read that as saying maybe he hasn't seen 2 step it up to where he wants the RB's to be.....that said Ware, Ford, and Blue have all been given a great deal of chances to step up. You have to believe that those 3 will be given the 1st opportunity to step up this year. If they continue to not step up as Miles seemed to insinuate there then you would have to believe that Hilliard, Hill, and Magee would be next.

I still think Magee factors in somewhere at LSU I'm just not sure if it is this year. I just hope he has the ability/want to wait his turn.

I think hillard and ford are the best two running backs we have. I had high hopes for ware and we will see this season, but he just does not seem like a natural running back. Seeking contact and softening up a D is good and all, I just would rather a slasher that can find a hole and is tough. Either ware needs to improve his vision or ford improves his toughness. Personally I think the latter is more possible considering ford is the strongest man on the team.

I think hillard has a good bit of both. Same with blue but he is faster and doesn't hit as hard.

Tough call

I think we are going to see Hilliard emerge as the "every down" guy that bangs the early. We will spell him often with Ford/Blue as a change of pace, going more and more with who has the hot hand. Once Hilliard tires after long drives and in the second half we will see Ware come in and beat people up for short yardage and goaline situations

Ford and Hilliard hopefully. I think that Hilliard is similar to Hill and Ware, but is better than the other two. Ford is faster than Blue and got more love last year, so I think he will get the same treatment this season.

When it comes to a combo of size, speed, power, catching, I'm a Hilliard guy. I believe he is the most special of the ones who have played. He is a runaway truck.

Would like to see Copeland get at least one carry per game. Put him in tailback position with a full head of steam. It'll give the DL something else to worry about. He's a runaway tank.

Ware/Ford are the 2 guys he leans on early on games

Blue/Hilliard are his 2nd half "closers" who wear defenses out. Said he wants to eke at least 1 pair of fresh legs for later in games to wear teams out.

I was going to joke that we'll pound Ware in 1st quarter, Blue changes pace and gets some screens in the 2nd, Ford gets around the edge in the 3rd and then Hilliard steam rolls after we're up by 21 in the 4th. Mett stops throwing midway thru 3rd each game, threatens to transfer (ha ha) Touchdowns for season: Ware 7, Blue 6, Ford 5, Hilliard 10

Here is a breakdown of Alfred Blue for those that are interested in a bit more of an indepth look.

Looks like his YPC are about what Ware's were in first half carries, FTR.

Looks like his YPC in the first half was closer to Ford than Ware, FTR.

Ware 3.96 LINK
Blue 4.71 LINK
Ford 5.28 LINK

ETA: Ford is also the Rant's most overrated player.

I think Michael Ford is gonna catch a lot of swing and outlet passes out of the backfield.

I say use them all. They are all worthy backs that would be the starter on any other team. Ware is a big physical back that can wear down defenders early in games. Next hit them with Ford. Ford is another big guy that is alittle more versatile. Hilliard is probably the best of all the backs IMO. Like Ford, he is big and physical, but might be faster. At the end of the game, when the defense is wore down, put in the fresh, speedy legs of Blue. But that would be the dream situation now wouldn't it.

I would like to get a carry with this O-line opening the holes and J.C.Copeland clearing the way.

There was a time when we had 3 NFL running backs getting significant carries, including one All-American, and one guy that many consider the most talented RB ever at LSU.

Are our current 6 guys better than Faulk, Mealy, Collins, and Cleveland? Possibly, but I can't make that determination yet. Although, at least 4 of 6 have already had a bigger impact at LSU than the most talented RB ever to wear the uniform.

Blue makes me think of Addai
I kind of get that same feeling. I remember thinking of Addai that he was never the best at any one thing (Green was faster, Hester seemed stronger, etc.), but he was really, really good at almost everything. Blue seems the same way. I think he's got closer to the total package than any of the others except maybe Magee, but I didn't see quite enough of him to judge yet.
