Better them than us. SB just saved us two more L's on our CWS resume.

You do recall that "high school team with there hitting" won a pretty tuff conference and was 1 win from the CWS...right?

No doubt we had some problems hitting at times, like the SR, but lets not piss too much on guys who hit timely enough to allow LSU to have a pretty sweet season overall.

No, he just won the SEC and was one game away from Omaha... Why would he be?

so because we aren't doing as good as USCe we should obviously fire coach CPM

Please point out where I said this.......

My whole deal is there is no reason why we should over 3 years between world series appearances, given the resources our program has.

I can't understand why some of yall think it's so unfathomable that Mainieris seat gets extremely warm following next season. If he goes out and either doesn't make the postseason or loses in the regional round, he should definitely be worried. All it took for Smoke was 1 postseason missed, after two trips to Omaha to get the hook.

quote:

Are you saying we should have fired skip because we never won 3 championships in a row. (USCe is in great position to do this)

Nope, people want to defend Mainieri by saying that there's so much parity in the game now, expectations are too high... but SC hasn't seemed to notice.

- Because the program has underachieved since 2010

- We have a beautiful, brand new ballpark and made it to Omaha once in the last 4 seasons (though I guess Paul is used to players hitting .250)

Amen brother. You can tell a lot of posters are from a generation where everyone received participation trophy in sports, school, etc. "We just won the SEC so why isn't that good enough?" They weren't' taught to strive for excellence. And God help you if you don't agree with them....

Stick around bro and keep posting , we need more thinkers in here.

No coaches put players in positions to be successful and pm does that over and over again. Those of you that think he is a bad coach or even an average coach are nuts. This isn't the mid nineties when 6 schools in the nation put money into a baseball program. People that think college baseball is anything at all like the mid 90s are crazy the parody in college baseball, just like in most other college sports, is much better today than it was in the past

In no way is he on the hot seat for next season no matter what the Ranters think. He will be here in 2014 unless he leaves on his own.

Who has the most resources, draws 5-7K actual fans per game, and plays in one of th nicest ballparks in the country?

To whom much is given, much is expected.

As I said earlier, South Carolina missed the memo.

Florida and Vandy have done pretty damn well the last few years as well.

So is it wrong for UK basketball fans to expect an Elite Eight appearance in most years?

How can you possibly say that? If he doesn't make a regional, it's entirely possible. Maybe if he's given the ultimatum he will get rid of his BBQ buddy.

Because he's not. If he doesn't make a regional next year, he will be on the hot seat for the next season.

Hell the AD is happy with this baseball season. They got the most use and $$ they possible could out of the stadium.

stop being such a defensive crybaby. I never said what we did this year was good enough to keep me or anyone affiliated with LSU happy.

Fact is the only teams in the SEC with fewer players drafted than us were MSU, Bama, Auburn, UT, and UGA. Of those, only MSU made the tournament. We were tied with USC with 5 players drafted and all the other schools had more drafted than us. Kentucky and UF had 9 guys drafted to our 5. We won the damn conference and hosted a super.

Everyone knew this team making it to Omaha was a reach before the season started. Most thought hosting a super was a reach and winning SEC was a pipedream.

Like I said, PM needs to recruit better.

In that case, you're both stupid.

Terry Rooney, a former Mainieri assistant at LSU, is now head coach at UCF, a team that beat Stony Brook in the Coral Gables Regional. Cliff Godwin is an assistant at Ole Miss. Alan Dunn is one of the best, if not THE best pitching coach in college baseball.

Both of you need to get the sand out of your private parts. That or just stop posting.

I notice you conveniently left out his hiring of Grewe and Sanchez. He decided Grewe was qualified to be the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator even though he had never held the first title before and had no substantial connections to Louisiana or the Southeast.

Sanchez was a 27 year old with no prior coaching experience who Mainieri had to order to quit going out with players and chasing sorority girls.

Clown hires.

quote:

every year 8 teams make it to omaha ONLY 8 that is 1/8th of every team who makes the post season

And your point?
quote:

2 trips to omaha out of 5 chances. Not horrible.

2 trips out of 7 chances. You can't just discount out the years they don't even make the tournament. Those years are complete and utter failures regardless of how much talent there is or if we got "jipped." LSU should be in the tournament every year and should never be in a position where their fate is in the hands of the selection committee.
quote:

this isn't the 90s

No shite.
quote:

we aren't the best team year after year in college baseball.

Exactly my point and exactly why Mainieri should be on the hot seat if he doesn't make Omaha next year for the 4th straight year.
quote:

USCe run is unnatural.

It's unnatural to make the CWS three years in a row? If so, there's another SEC team that is having an "unnatural run." So now we are clearly the 3rd best program in the conference? That's not good for Mainieri.
quote:

CPM shouldn't be on the hot seat after making well a mosterous improvement.

What improvement is that? That our program and talent level declined so fast and so bad that making a Super Regional is now considered a successful season at LSU? That being clearly outclassed and out-talented by a Northeastern, non-traditional power is acceptable?
quote:

it would kinda be like taking a 7-5 team in football and making them a 11-2 team making it to a BCS bowl game in one year. What AD would even consider firing a guy like this.

I'm not arguing that he should be fired this year. But, to use your analogy and if they fail to make Omaha next year, that's not an 11-2 season. That would be like going 7-5, 11-2 and 7-5. If that's the case, I can show you lots of precedent for firing him.

yeah, we had a shitty year in 2011, but we overacheived this season. We won the sec when we were picked to finish 4th, and we we got a top eight seed.IMO, that is not somthing that you put a coach on the hot seat for.
Yeah,I was pissed after the Stony Brook loss too, but we had a horrible weekend... it's baseball bad luck happens
