I hope and pray he hires an OC that implements a run first offense that runs out of power formations.

I really don't see this happening. at best I think you're gonna see some diamond formation and pistol like WVU/Ok St does, given how Sumlin and Holgorsen are tight.

aTm is going to be like Texas Tech when they had Leach. Never win shite but could beat anyone on any given day.

This hire proves ATM really has no idea what the hell they're doing. Might as well have kept Sherman if this is all you were going to get out of the deal.

I don't see anything being reported as official on ESPN

Based on premium boards, more interviews are taking place this weekend

why does everyone assume sumlin would throw the ball 65 times a game at TAMU? Just because he did that with keenum at a non-AQ school doesnt mean that is what they definitely will do at TAMU.

This. The "Air Raid" offense is a talent equalizer--when you don't have the studs to run a conventional offense, you recruit QBs and some good receivers, spread everybody out, and hope that you outscore people. Sumlin was OC during the last half of RC Slocum's final year (turned things around mid-season, offensively), and was co-coordinator on Bob Stoops staff at OU when Adrian Peterson was the featured back. He's going to have an inexperienced QB but an experienced offensive line and some talent at RB (hopefully, if Michael stays and Trey Williams signs, to go along with the others). I'll be shocked if A&M doesn't run a balanced, or even slightly run oriented, offense next year.

If I were the AGS I would throw alot of money to Smart as the DC... He could then prove that he can do it without Sabin and then off to be a head coach.

I hate this hire as well.

I don't know why everyone is so upset with this. He has the potential to be successful. Maybe not on par with LSU/BAMA/FL, but I compare this to TTech when Leach was there. They can be an above average team(2/3 West) on a good year.

These Air Raid offenses are not typical of the SEC, which means teams like LSU and BAMA will be used to playing Power/Spread Option teams, therefore giving aTm an advantage.

Kinda like what GT has done with the Triple Option. It's not always bad to be the only team that runs this style of offense. BUT, they will have to put together an above average Def.

Good for the Ags, but I think he is not going to be nearly as successful in the SEC. Keenum was perfect in that offense and that version of the spread can kill it in CUSA, but will be much, much more difficult to run and succeed with at A&M.

We will be running the ball a lot more than people think. And from some of the names thrown around as DC, I think we're on the right track. I wanted a big time name and was meh about this at first, but if he puts together an all star staff then I'm definitely on board.

Have you seen UofH's defense since Sumlin was hired? He and the ags will fail miserably in the SEC unless he knocks the DC hire out of the park

we ran a diamond at my high school and I consider it a power running formation. Its essentially an inverted wishbone.

you can go under center for traditional runs or out of shotgun for zone read, go with 2 fullbacks for straight blocking, two TE for passing and blocking, or even three RBs with tons of misdirection.

its a pretty solid formation IMO and I would be happy if we used it now and then.

Exactly, just like Baylor today. I'm not sure TT could beat shite today.

I have no clue why A&M fired Sherman just to hire Sumlin. Not to knock on Sumlin, I actually like the guy, but I would think Sherman was a better coach.

good point. Dinardo was almost strictly an option guy at Vandy and he changed up to more of a pro style when he got to LSU.
