Do you dumb it down a little so you don't sound like "that stat guy"?

Or when people don't know exactly what theyre talking about do you let it slide or correct them.

I just try to avoid further discussion myself. Not some sort of sports snob but Its sort of aggravating to be honest.

it's about as annoying as talking politics with a chick

I like to drop all kinds of obscure facts/stats, especially when it's a fan that actually thinks they know what they're talking about but clearly don't

I have a few friends up here who know jack about college football, but feel the need to share their "knowledge"

I have to do this all the time.

For the most part I let it go, although I try to correct them as long as it does not come off underhanded or snobbish.

It's annoying as hell, I love talking about sports, and always tend to initiate (we have sportscenter on up front, so they get all their sports knowledge from that) and just end up walking away exasperated.

One of them is a pats fan, which is bad enough. Another is a huge saints homer (reggie bush is going to the hall of fame according to him)

Believe it or not the person I talk to who knows the most about football is one my friend's gf.. kinda sad.

If they're close friends, then I give them a hard time if they're spewing complete BS. If it's an acquaintance, I let it slide.

As for throwing out stats/analysis... typically only if the person is genuinely interested.

they're probably the girls who put on eye black for preseason games and don't know that we're not trying to win...

I just don't get involved.

But it pisses me off at games (gamecock football games) when you have people trying to be coaches that have no idea what they're talking about, and just use homer knowledge or no knowledge at all.
Then i'll but in.

I just stop if they don't know what they are talking about. I really can't be friends with a dude that doesn't know a lot about sports.

I hate the casual sports fan whose dumb opinion can't be swayed with facts. Nothing pisses me off more.

I try to, but...

... this happens.

I don't really bring up college football with people. If someone else mentions I'll kind of go along with them for a minute and probably end up changing the subject. They usually wanna talk about something that was relevant news on TD like 18 months ago. I'm more prone to talking about sports which I am just a casual fan of like the NFL or NBA. The conversation is a lot more fun if you're both of similar knowledge.
