Great hire. I wish him the best and hope we give him a standing ovation in Tuscaloosa this year. He build a powerhouse program here.

Hopefully we can hire someone who will take us to the next step.

At 200k I'm really happy with the hire as long as he gets us wins. I want to see LSU SB in the Supers next year(rantard expectations)!

Not sure I understand your argument.

The other poster said that Bama would get the coach of #1 or #2, and I do not think that those coaches will leave their respective schools.

Now, to the point of better coaches out there than UF's - of course there might be better coaches, but they do not have the #2 team in the country.

That said, I'm sure Bama will make a fine hire...whomever it is.

The paper this morning said his salary at LSU will be $200,000/year. He was making $140,000 at Alabama and the Gumps matched LSU's salary offer but Murphy said no thanks.

So, do you still think "this place is going to blow the frick up"????

Nah...it will be fine. I just recall the angst a lot of the Rantards had at Caldwell's salary, and $300,000 would have drawn that same reaction. $200,000 probably won't be too controversial. I wouldn't have had a problem with $300K personally...I was just anticipating the reaction of the "why are we putting money into something that is going to lose a bajillion dollars anyway" crowd...

Yep. But you can't rationalize with rantards. We just have to accept their stupidity and move on.

That's a great hire. I don't care what sport we're talking about, but getting a championship coach from Bama is always sweet.

They can have Saban. Miles has shown he can win that game.

I think this is a good hire. I do have one issue. When bama came here this year to play softball they were ranked #1 in the nation. LSU swept them. Ummm???

This may have been a coup, but i would lean more to YG being the ringleader than Alleva. Murphy is one of the big branches in her coaching tree, if my memory is correct. Certain people respect the crap out of the person who gave them their shot. When Bama matched maybe he just wnted to be the guy that replaced YG!

Thoughts? Not trying to steal JA'a thunder, i just think this was a lot of YG's doing.

Seriously doubt it. Alleva is too smart to let a retiring coach "dictate" who he hires. I am sure he asked for input from her, but that was probably the extent of it. I think the fact that Murphy is tied to YG is really coincidental. I think he gets hired if the 2 of them had never even met before.

He also seems to indicate Bama matched the offer but Murphy still left.

But from one powerhouse team to another? Is it possible that LSU's facilities were better than Alabama's? Or maybe that (just a hunch), maybe his place of residence was domilished and wanted to relocate (not trying to be distastful)?

Maybe Murphy just really enjoyed his time in S.Louisiana before and wanted to get back?

Because it has been confirmed that Alabama matched LSU's offer that the move was an F you to Alabama for some reason but that came from a cynical Bama fan on another board.

I personally think that there comes a time for successful coaches when they've simply reached their peak at a place and would like to try something different at a different place. I'm not suprised Murphy decided to coach somewhere else. I'm just suprised he decided to make a lateral move within his own conference division. No disrespect meant at all to LSU as it's one of the top SEC jobs. It just seems a little strange unless he has some previous ties with the area. I could see a move to a PAC 10, Big 12, or ACC school but not within the SEC.

Really, a guy who came from the YG tree and u doubt she had any input. As much as she cared for those teams in Lafayette when as a high school coach, she was spreading dirt for her girls to play. To a Major College SB coach, and you thinks she doesn't care about who follows her. She had more input in this discision than people know. Aleeva can take all the credit. I just don't think it was a coincidence Murphy ended up at LSU(YG).

Has anyone heard if James Defeo will stay on staff with LSU?
