To which Scheffler's attorney, Steve Romines, responded:

"Our position remains the same as it was last Friday," Romines said, via ESPN's Jeff Darlington. "I am not negotiating as we have no interest in settling. I am preparing to litigate as needed and the case will be dismissed or we will go to trial because Scottie did absolutely nothing wrong."

Police love to use their authority to show off, especially when it involves an event they might not ever get a chance to see.

Most police are the very same people everyone picked on in grade school. They just getting their payback.

Can you sue for malicious prosecution?

I’m sure you can. Also suing for emotional damages resulting in the loss of wages, which in Scottie’s case is a big arse number. If they don’t drop charges before the arraignment, he’ll have to miss The Memorial.
