On the plus side, Shep looks great, Ford looks fantastic.

Bottom Line is that JJ is a better pure QB/ arm and JJ has better legs.

Both have their vices.

Hopefully it will be an open competition going into fall camp.

We have a long way to go at QB and Shep needs to improve on his catching over the summer.

bottom line to me is JJ will do more of the same, use his legs more than look for WR's, and Lee, who looks improved should be given another chance to start.

all this about reopen the competition is just plain stupid... you dont think it's open? The only thing set in stone is probably the oline.

Yeah JJ is said to be the starter, but it is def open at qb, just like alot of other positions. either way they are both going to play this season.

If J. Lee had a good QB coach he would be the best QB in the SEC hands down.

Things I'm happy about:

I didn't see anyone run the option.
Ford and Ridley looked really good.
Looks like the staff is going to use R. Sheppard more this year.
Mingo and Montgomery looked good.
Kickers did well.

Concerns:

Run D looked really bad. Actually the D didn't impress me at all.
No QB stood out as the clear cut starter.
Shep needs to work on catching the ball.
WR's spot looks thin. I hope Boone, Wright or Williams can step up quickly.
Goal line play calling was questionable.
D line looks light and LBs didn't impress.

ETA: Hopefully Z. Lee doesn't sign with a MLB team and blows the other QBs out of the water!

JJ looked exactly like he did in most of last years games. Lost

LSU will lose at least 4 to 5 games with Jefferson at QB. He is not a leader and has horrible qb skills and techniques.

There is no confidence and swagger about him.

Not a qb that will lead you to a championship .

The int for lee was more the call in that situation than lee throw. The defense knew the play that was coming.

Lee definetly looked better but i was hoping to see something in JJ that led me to believe he was more mature and i just didnt see it.

Dont think ill have the audio on for the bama scrimage. Surprised to learn that LSU wasnt even in the game with the tide last year and bama will definatly run over the Tigers this year and outclasses everyone one in the west by such a wide margin even after admitting the holes they have to fill. Started to wonder what spring game I was watching. All that before they even watch thier spring game. That being said i was impressed by the D, and I didnt see all the negativity about how small they were

I agree that the competition should be wide open.

What struck me was how impressive a lot of the young players were. The vets did not stand out, but several new players will upgrade this team. I'm encouraged. Ford is the real deal, with good combo of power, speed, and cutting ability. Mingo on passing plays will greatly upgrade our pass rush. Montgomery as well. Minter will play a lot.

No actually, I'm not just going to take it for granted that it's open. Why would Miles say that JJ is the starter if he really doesn't know that? This is the same situation as 2008 and he didn't name a starter then.

I would like to take it for granted that Miles will play the best guy, but who knows? After some of the things that he has said about JJ and JL's progression, and after what I saw this afternoon, I honestly have no idea how anybody could know who should start in the fall.

Whole thing was mediocre. To hear Les say he liked what he saw from the qb's was laughable. Both looked less than average. They are right about the D-Line. It looks small in the middle and run stopping looks like it will be a challenge all year. Big O-Lines will be a problem...again.
