His shows would be my favorite on TV if he wasn't so damn corny.

Personall I think he is pretty good, plus I love his knives.... The guy obviously knows what he is doing and talking about. He is a little nutty, but he has a great technical aspect that many chefs don't touch.

Geoff Smith was nutty too but I learned a lot about cooking from him before he went to prison.

Just cook the shite; I don't need the molecular break down of flank steak

He's the Glenn Beck of cooking. He might know what he's talking about, but he's a creepy cat.

Glad to hear it. I liked Jeff's explanations on origins of recipes.

I like the guy and I have learned plenty from watching him

My favorite cooking show, Bobby Flay is pretty good to watch also. It's a shame Alton's no longer a 7:00pm M-F regular, I guess they ran out of shows in the can.

Did AB film a new "Dining On..." series this summer?

Have you seen him on the commercial for the upcoming season of "I want to be an Iron Chef" or whatever it's called?
Looks like he caught the anorexic

I like some of the techniques Alton shows but damn he can make things complicated. Did anyone see the turkey frying episode? Dude setup a ladder and a pulley - give me a break. Then he did one on chicken wings (I was ready to get some good tips) and he starts making a contraption to boil or steam the wings - he just gets out of control sometimes. It is a cooking show not spend 4 hours building a contraption.
A few weeks ago I caught one on making a gumbo and as soon as the tomatoes went in I turned the channel.

Don't get me wrong, I like the shows, but that Gumbo episode was painful. I believe that is the same show that he said in Louisiana, we like to put a spicy sausage called "Boo-dAne" in our gumbo.
I met him a few years back at KBIS (Kitchen & Bath Industry Show) in Chicago. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
On a side note, I met Martin Yan at the same show in Vegas. That dude was ALL business once his demo was over.

Creole vs Cajun no big deal

Story in the AJC this week, Brown lost 40 pounds. He said after 10 years of doing Good Eats, he noticed he ballooned quite a bit. He said a lot of it was desserts and alcohol, so he cut back on that. Went from size 38 to 31 in pants.
They are having 2 live Good Eats shows at the Cobb Galleria center, could be fun.
AB is solid.

i agree, i didn't think the Gumbo episode was very good; he did a much better job with the LA crawfish episode.

i didn't find his method for making chicken wings all that complicated. in fact, i use his method all the time and the wings turn out great. all you need is a steamer basket, something most people have in the kitchen. does it require more steps than just "drop wings in hot grease?" sure, but it is still pretty easy and, at least to me, the end product is worth the the extra step.
i do agree, however, that he occasionally goes overboard; but, overall i think his techniques are pretty useful.

That is my biggest problem with his show, he takes stuff and make sit very complicated, the turkey one with the pulley and ladder, and the cake icing one when he builds a turntable to turn the cake instead of just moving the cake. He has good cooking tips and explains how it all works together, but he goes overboard with some of his stuff.

+1.
I mean, some of the things he talks about are kind of interesting but he takes is overboard

Over the top yes, but this was simply a CYA Imagine the legal liablity of some stupid arse burning the shite out of themselves?
