My mother eats that stuff like it's going out of style.

I'm not a fan personally.

I grew up on it New Iberia. Hated it. Still do. Maple rules. Steen's has a bitter after taste.

Tim's Steen Sauce

Servings: 6

Notes: This is great over green beans...wrapped in bacon and charcoal grilled.

1 strip bacon, cut in 1" pieces
1/4 cup onion, diced fine
1 teaspoon thyme leaves
1 shot Jim Beam
3/4 cup Steen Cane syrup
1 teaspoon butter
salt and pepper

1. Saute bacon in butter. Add onions and thyme and caramelize onions.

2. Deglaze the pot with Jim Beam, scraping the bottom of pan.

3. Add syrup and simmer 15 min.

Have a friend that used this sauce to cook a ham...said it was double nuts.

we made these all the time growing up. good stuff but i haven't had one in many years.

i have never yet to run across Steen's at a grocery store in Illinois. i'm assuming they don't distribute up here.

I happened to be in Waffle House a couple weeks ago. This lady in there had brought her Steens from home to use in the restaurant.

Thats Pathetic

I love it, but I can appreciate that if you didn't grow up with it, the taste could be too strong. A lot of things fit in this category from all regions, go eat some scrapple without gagging.

I did not know any other type of syurp even existing till I was in my teens.

Great stuff, was raised on it.

Have an uncle who grows his own cane and makes his own syrup, its quite a process
