The Louisiana Restaurant Tournament now begins.

#9 Gino's of Baton Rouge heads south to the imposing Yat New Orleans Regional to play #8 Irene's Cuisine of New Orleans. A classic match between New Orleans and Baton Rouge will be the first of many.

As for all games, anyone can vote. Anyone can also tell in the same post us why their choice should win. Politiking is encouraged. But you can only post once in a thread while the game is being played. If you post more than once in the thread while the game is underway, your vote is disqualified. You may post in the thread AFTER the dead line for votes.

Voting will end at 11:30 Sunday night. That's TONIGHT.

Both great places but I give the nod to Irene b/c of the drunk factor after the great meal. Meals always spot on ....but the ability to walk the streets of the city with a wine bottle in hand much less walk past a door seperating the glorified world of BR from me with a partially consumed beer makes it much better.

Irene's. A really fun place with great food in the Creole-Italian style.

#9 Gino's

True Italian food...Irene's is a hodgepodge...Not sure if they are French or Italian...I believe they are more Creole Italian.

Gino's

Excllent steak, wine, and atmosphere

I'm not voting this b/c it's BR vs. NOLA. Some of my favorite places to eat are in NOLA, but some of you NOLA people need to admit that you've never been to Gino's and you know nothing about it. I haven't been to Irene's in a while, but if both places were in Crossett, Arkansas, Gino's would win hands down. Irene's is a good date place and in a great location, but the food, IMHO, was lacking what I had hoped for in quality and flavor.

Hopefully, this doesn't turn into a pissing contest. I voted for Johnny's in the other thread without ever have been to the other place...and well...you know me. I'm going to vote for Johnny's Pizza over Get a Blowjob with a Pizza, so it doesn't really matter.

Gino's, easily.

why?
Best Italian food in the state. Being the best at a major cuisine should count for something. Old school place run by the same Sicilian family for over 40 years. They came to the US in the 50's, opened Gino's in the 60's, and have stayed true to their old recipes. Also, a very underrated steak.

Only been to Irene's once, and i did like it...but wasn't blown away at all, and definitely wouldn't call it the best at anything in the area. I'm not giving it bonus points for being in the quarter and being able to walk around and drink after dinner. We're judging restaurants, not neighborhoods or cities.....despite the very predictable NOLA-centric voting by every single NOLA voter to date.

Irene's. But after thinking about it, not by as big of a gap as I might have first thought.
