How do y'all rate Nate Diaz as a fighter?

I can't help but love him for the competitor that he is.

His 22-13-0 record indicates he's just a middle of the road fighter and he lacks punching power with only 4 KO's to his name as a pro.
Between him and his brother Nick, I don't think they have enough functioning brain cells to complete an easy crossword puzzle.

They're definitely punchy.
I watched an interview he did on Chuck Liddell's show recently and both of them are missing a ton of marbles.
A lot of these fighters will be having a tough time as the years wane. It's sad to see really.

He was entertaining and fought a who’s who of fighters. Solid grappling game but not a lot of punching power even tho he was a decent boxer. He was good but not among the greats. Never won a belt.
His win over Conor at 170 was pretty shocking when it happened tho. I think it was more from better conditioning than better skill tho.

Ahead of his time.
He doesn’t have the build to be in serious conversation of one of the best ever but he’s a pioneer of the sport. Most guys where I’m from didn’t know what bjj was when Nate started training. He’s also got incredible cardio.
He also taught you don’t have to swing 100% every single time you swing. The peppering shots do a lot of damage when added up.

If there were ever two brothers destined to grow up to be fighters it was Nate and Nick in Stockton.
This is what I think of when I think of those guys, the caption says Strikeforce but it was an EliteXC event after Nick fought KJ Noons. Nick and Nate walking up the steps of the arena throwing up middle fingers and hand signs still cracks me up.
They got into another post-fight rumble a few years later, that time with Mayhem after a Jake Shields fight in Strikeforce.
Sorry for the portrait view but this is the only video I could find.

As a casual MMA fan, Diaz fights were always some of my favorites. He's fearless and tough, one of those fighters you almost had to kill to get a knock out. He was constantly moving forward and throwing. Fights were always entertaining and generally went the distance.

Very tough but not elite at any aspect of fighting.

He learned this from older brother

Good fighter who didn’t train real hard and could have been better. I saw a video once where he and his brother live in the same house and drive Toyota Camry’s and only wear clothes that is given to them looked like they sit at home smoking pot and playing Xbox all day and don’t spend money.

In boxing we called this death by 1,000 bee stings. Eventually even if you are feather fisted you will do severe damage landing that many shots. Look at what Joe Calzaghe did to Jeff Lacy’s face. It was a mess.

Tough fighter that could take a beating, usually entertaining to watch, but far from elite. His mouth wrote (and still writes) checks his arse couldn't cash. 13 loses, even in his prime, tells the story. Fearless, often to his detriment.

One of the greatest sports interviews of all time.

I'm not educated in MMA enough to rank him anywhere, but I will say this...as scary as a lot of these fighters are, I couldn't imagine fighting Nate, landing my best shots square on him and having him just look back at me smiling and flipping me the bird. Someone who can take your best and just laugh you off is terrifying.

I'm 73 and have been a fan of boxing and other forms of combat sport all my life and the number of fighters I've seen who have suffered from pugilistic dementia is staggering.
Over the course of their lifetime, between training, amateur and pro fights, etc., they have taken many thousands of blows to the head and the negative effect that causes is irreversible. Once you have it, it only worsens.

One of the most fun to watch, ever. Same with Cowboy. Same with Matt Brown. Funny thing about MMA, it’s rarely the top of the division that’s the most fun to watch. It’s the bangers.

If it was untimed fights I bet his record would be much different. Might have 2-3 loses at most.
