House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has cautioned the Republican Party in Florida from redistricting after Virginia voted to approve a plan that could grant Democrats four additional U.S. House Seats.

“The constitutional amendment narrowly backed by voters bypasses a bipartisan redistricting commission to allow the use of new districts drawn by Virginia’s Democratic-led General Assembly,” reported the Hartford Courant. “The state Supreme Court is considering whether the plan is illegal.”

In a statement to PunchBowl News founder Jake Sherman, Hakeem Jeffries said that Republicans in Florida will suffer further losses if they move forward with redistricting.

quote:

“If Florida Republicans proceed with this illegal scheme, they will only create more prime pick-up opportunities for Democrats, just as they did with Trump’s dummymander in Texas,” he said.

“We will aggressively target for defeat Mario Díaz-Balart, Maria Elvira Salazar, Carlos Giménez, Kat Cammack, Anna Paulina Luna, Laurel Lee, Cory Mills and Brian Mast. We are prepared to take them all on, and we are prepared to win.” Jeffries added, “Maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time.”

quote:

According to Newsweek, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis “called a special session to consider legislation on redistricting beginning April 28, setting up the next front in the fight.”

Jeffries also told CNN that the Democrats enacted the vote in Virginia to nullify gains made in Texas.

FL has a far larger relative skew right than VA has a skew left.

He’s too dumb to realize it but his “concerns” are a bigger potential issue for the DNC in VA than they are for the GOP in FL.

Just say that each state's housem seats go to the party that won the state for the presidency. Then have a midterm--a chance to lose all those seats--2 years later. That would mean a president would at least start with control of the House. And no more redistricting bullshite.

Why is this a terrible idea?

So...it's ok to do your own "illegal scheme" since you say republicans did it first

This mofo might be the dumbest to ever hold office.

This is what we are up against, and, let's face it folks, the Leftists have control over the Judiciary and the media - it's going to be difficult to win this war.

SCOTUS needs to rule on the VRA case. Supposedly the dissenters are delaying their opinion. Roberts needs to give them a firm deadline.

How could this possibly pass muster with the Supreme Court when they're literally admitting to changing this for federal election reasons? Seems like it would fall squarely in federal jurisdiction.

Basically he’s begging Florida not to do it. Florida should go full tilt and leave only 3 dem congressional districts. If the SC overturns race based districts all southern states affected should go as many republican districts as they can. I think LA, MS, and AL can all go full republican. GA and SC can definitively make cuts to dem districts.

Bad idea, if Hispanics start voting like they did pre-2020, alot of safe GOP districts will flip back to Democrats. passing that before an election where you are projected to get wiped out in the House?
