Not living inside. We have room outside for a cage/fence setup.

What are the dos and don’t’s here?

I remember having one outside as a kid and that thing eventually got feral and mean.

Do fatten it up

Don't tell her you served it up for Easter dinner. Just tell her the Easter Bunny took the rabbit and left all the candy.

USA rabbit = yum yum

China rabbit = no way Jose!

Do NOT leave a pot of water boiling on your stove.

We've had like 5 (3 kids and my sister breeds them, wife's a sucker). The first 4 kind of sucked and ran away from us if it ever got loose etc.. died quickly. I have to say though the 5th one is amazing. It's more like a dog than a rabbit. Kids love it, everyone loves it. Good luck

She’s a good kid, and this is a compromise for not getting a puppy.

See if she’ll go for a ferret instead.

My wife is the absolute no on the puppy.

I’m hiding behind that because I don’t want the additional responsibility either.

But she’s only 6 once and she’s fantastic so I’m feeling guilty that she deserves some sort of pet.

They can live a long time. Then need special food, hay, water. They can be sensitive to bugs. I’m talking about pet rabbits of course. They need attention or they will become mean. My kids have had them before. Kept one for 7 years and then gave it to a younger family member. Maybe get her a goldfish or a small aquarium to see how she does

Most rabbit folks don’t recommend them for kids that young.

Here are some things to consider when getting a rabbit for a kid. Bunny blog

They are great pets, even inside. Will litter box train, don’t make any noise. Other than cleaning the cage, hay, water and feed is all they need. If allowed inside though, when they moult it’s rabbit fur city. Good luck.

I had a rabbit… her name was Winnie and she was a lion head. We kept her inside, she had a hutch. Before we got Sally the Dog, she ran free part of the day. Very sweet creature, she died a ways back and I miss her.

Biggest tip? Get them fixed if you aren’t going to breed them. Mine died of girl cancer.

Make sure you know a vet that deals with rabbits BEFORE you get a rabbit.

We got our 8 year old grand daughter a Holland Lop. She loved it and if loved to be held. Unfortunately it died after about 3 weeks.

Called the breeder and she had one that looked just like the first one. 2 years later and she still does not know it is not the same rabbit.
