He is set on a Honda Accord touring, but I'm not sure because the car in question has been for sale for over 30 days from Matt frickING Bower.

30 days isn't bad, but find somewhere else to buy. Matt Bower dealerships are a den of snakes. much more so than most dealers.

How old is this young man? If this will be his first car, you're spending way too much money on something that will very likely become scratched, dented, or wrecked.

Tell him to be a man and buy a used Toyota Tundra V8 with 150k miles or less and he will be driving it for another decade easily. Occasional oil change, brakes and tires will be the only future expenses.

If he dead set on a car, go with Camry V6. Same low maint cost

Buy him an American vehicle. What’s wrong with Americans? Where’s our patriotism? You guys all tell him to buy Japanese!

You want something safe and with a good warranty.
I'd go with a K4

Don't even need to spring for the GT-line

The LXS or EX are gonna have the safety features you want for him. Blind spot indicators, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Plus they have great safety rating. It's what I'm putting mine in when it comes time
