Delivery services like Doordash are killing the restaurant indistry

One of the biggest double edge swords I can think of. Restaurants kind of have to be on there but when they are on these services it severely destroys great service for people who actually visit the restaurant to eat
Everytime I walk into a jersey Mikes or Chipotle or somewhere, it seems that I always have to wait for them to complete DoorDash or Uber eats orders. They have to put these people first over people who actually visits the restaurant because the majority of negative reviews about a restaurant are from people who got their delivery from DoorDash or Uber eats

When I think of the phrase, “the restaurant industry”, I don’t think of Jersey Mikes or Chipotle.
When I think of the phrase “great service”, I also don’t think of Jersey Mikes or Chipotle.
I also don’t think the restaurant industry is getting killed. With all of that in mind, I’m not sure I can contribute much to this conversation other than saying I disagree with several premises of this thread.
Edited: At the risk of being Mr Fancy Pants, when I read restaurant reviews, I also do not read them for grab and go chain places like Jersey Mikes or Chipotle. I expect the quality of food and service that comes with low quality mass production chain restaurants that can only thrive by hiring low wage workers in starter jobs. I don’t need a review to provide me with information that should not be a surprise to anyone familiar with low quality mass production chain restaurants.
Sincerely,
Mr Fancy Pants

i dont mean to sound like i'm stereotyping but at first i was genuinely confused when i would go to my favorite indian or thai restaurant and there were always several black women picking up 'to go' orders.
i was like "dang, they really expanded their palate"
took a bit (because i dont use those services) for it to dawn on me they were picking it up for a delivery service.

It's not just those places though. It's everywhere. Olive garden, longhorn, outback, bla bla bla
In know a restaurant owner in Destin who was so overwhelmed with DoorDash shite that he took the restaurant off the services and they did the same amount of business.. made the same amount of profit and it drastically made their service 100 times better

So what you're saying is the restaurants are getting a steady business flow AND I don't have to wait for a table? I'm in.

3rd party ordering exploded during Covid but some restaurants still haven’t adjusted. Chick Fila and McDonald’s have dedicated labor and infrastructure just for delivery.
And they aren’t putting delivery first. They just received those orders before yours

I mean how many people are really basing their decision on whether or not to eat at places like this on Yelp reviews?
I was gonna pull off and grab McDonald’s a the next exit but it’s only 2 1/2 stars on Yelp!

Gotcha. I’m seeing a pattern.

There’s a world some of us just don’t live in.
Does their Fanta taste fresh squeezed ?
I want the McRib to play pic-a-boo with my taste buds, so which location can actually deliver in a way that DoorDash can only dream about?
I have a 35 year anniversary coming up and points to burn. Might be time to find out.

To try and actually make your point for you, people are crushingly lazy, and won't order from local non chain restaurants if they aren't available on DoorDash.
I get DoorDash credits every month, and never use them. Because of the markup restaurants have to charge because of DoorDash's massive cut of the sale, getting $10 off ordering through an app (for pickup) is a wash. The local Mediterranean place near me has to charge $17.95 for a Gyro, and $23.85 if you want fries. A gyro kit at HEB is $9 for 4 servings.

Hopefully most if not all of the COVID era fast food delivery services will die and never come back.

People are nit picking your post but I get what you are saying
There are several fast-casual places where you walk in to place your order at the counter and there's always 3-4 Doordash drivers waiting around. They are usually fat, tattooed, piercings, wearing short shorts etc. Not exactly the type of people some of these places usually deal with. But it is a double edged sword because they don't want to lose that revenue stream but having to wade through the wall of Doordash drivers can be a turnoff for the regular clientele

Or ya know there is this thing called time. Those orders were put in well before you walked through the door.

obviously it's a bit different because it's a college area, but i remember going to the northgate chipotle at lsu and it was actually a decent atmosphere. groups of kids having lunch/dinner, maybe a few kids eating and working on homework/studying. now every chipotle is trashed and full of the dregs of society angrily waiting for their delivery order.

I refuse to use them for our restaurant.

It still blows my mind how much of the population is willing to pay 50-100% markups on fast food so they don't have to go get it.

I used it for a while around COVID but the prices kept going up and I decided that its worth the $1.50 in gas to just go get it myself rather than pay for that service. Never again
