I’m taking my two middle school sons to the LSU baseball games on Friday and Saturday. This will be the first time that I’ve attended an LSU baseball game since the final series in the old Alex Box (when I was still a student). I also haven’t been on campus in close to 15 years. We are staying in Lod Cook. I thought that would make it easier to get around. When we aren’t at the games, any suggestions for things to do for boys that age? I thought we just walk around and check out campus. (My oldest is primarily interested in what we plan to eat.)

We are doing the same but staying out in town. Saturday we are driving to Lafayette and Scott for food, bringing a cooler to take home then to the game. I’m taking my dad and 7 to.

Pull on the doors at the PMAC (usually you can find one open and go look at the court)

You'll be shocked how much it's changed in 15 years.

Yeah, I know. Didn’t they close off parts of the campus to cars?

Brought my family down for the Arkansas baseball game last year. They are all Arkansas born and huge Pig fans. None of them had ever been on campus, so we got there early and walked around Tiger Stadium, went to the Sports Shop, visited Mike and then hiked over to Bookstore. One thing that impressed them was how beautiful the campus is with the live oaks and shaded walkways. They were impressed by the sheer size of the campus and pretty it was.

They close the campus from like 9-5 (fact check?) during school days. It is open to cars any other time

They have torchy's in Texas so you could find another place to eat at Chimes Street or the Perkins road overpass, though not technically on campus.

USS kidd is unfortunately not there right now.

I believe you can walk into the lobby of football ops and see the trophies. Pretty cool for the kids. You can park across the street

Been many years since i explored LSU and people have told you some good stuff...just to add...

Go see the old Cow Palace and show them where BBall used to play and you used to be able to get into the old locker room area if you tried hard enough.

Try to get into Tiger Stadium. Its occasionally open and you can walk in just dont get on field anymore unless someone lets you

Baseball stadium is always open and you can get down to field as long as practice is not going on.

Let them see the parade grounds and go into some of the buildings. Bell Tower building has a museum in it if i remember correctly. if i am wrong its still a cool old building. Law school is interesting to see. Go into union and bookstore.

Take them to quad to see all the tang walking around. Middle schoolers will go crazy with what they see

Get them ice cream at the dairy

Enjoy the day

To be honest i recommend the Andonie museum but the alimni has closed it since covid. So i am not sure what is still open. I liked going in the student union and bookstore, used to like the on campus museums. The visitors center can recommend something i am sure

Go the the Iak Grove Memorial right behind the union.
Show them the underground network of tunnels that run all over campus. Kids love that idea. Can’t Go in them anymore.
Sugar kettle by the stadium- first granulated sugar and made LSU a lot of money 150 yrs.ago.
Louisiana Room in the library.
Natural Science Museum- very corny but well known
Indian mounds of course.
If you want a real blast from the past, go down Highland to Der Winerschnizel ! That place has survived for over 50 yesrs!!

State Capitol and Old State Capitol. Both free and both really cool looking inside. It's nice because you can stay a while looking around or just do a quick walk through.

Also, at the capitol building, you can go to the observation deck.

Check the operating hours. The Old State Capitol is somewhat limited. Also, probably much easier to go on Saturday because not much traffic downtown.

I forget which building it is in but the museum of natural history is pretty cool, too.

If you get there early enough on Friday go get some student made "Tiger Bite" ice cream from the LSU dairy store on campus. Louie's for breakfast and get the hashbrowns.

Stop at Christ the King and say a prayer for the baseball team to get a series win.
