From the 1930's till the 1980's it seems as if we had so many advancements in technology, communication, travel, entertainment, exploration, medicine and so on....

Building we went from Art Deco, to Mid Century Modern, to Post Modernism... What is it now?

From the 1980's we've had many advances, especially in technology but not as as fast and abundant as those last 50 years...

I feel like when we hit around 2010-2015, things just seem to have peaked.

Basically, things today just all look and have the same feelings and features.. The average housing all looks the same, cars all look the same, music, other than different genres, is all the same, television is all the same shite, movies and entertainment is pretty much the same... Fast food restaurants all look the same.

Nothing seems new anymore....

Is it I'm just getting older and, and new stuff just doesn't hit my interest?

Someone enlighten me...

Felt like peak was 80s & 90s with the death of it being 9/11.

9/11 starts it but Harambe’s death was the final nail in the coffin.

After the Jarrett Lee/Jordan Jefferson locker room debacle in the Superdome, everything in America started to fall apart .

tinder, snap chat, instagram, twitter, subscription based services all became popular at this time. 2nd Obama term also upped the PC, trayvon martin etc.

Being on your phone or technology before that time period was a leisure, after that time it became a habit for society to constantly live on phone. Phone addiction and constant outrage has become the downfall of our society

We peaked in 1988-89. That was the apex of Western civilization.

I think you are right and the spotlight on the sameness of every aspect of our lives now is exactly the numbing feeling I get when I look around. There is zero reason why MCDonalds looks the same as the local family dental office, but they do. Cars have much less differences than they used to. Maybe this is a physical representation of the internet age and the inevitable singularity of our civilization.

Take a look at the old Soviet Union and what their architecture, autos, music, television programming, entertainment, and food was like back during its heyday. Everything looked the same. There was no real variety.

Now take a look at how our culture changed in the time period you mentioned.

I don't think we have necessarily peaked as a society, but we are most certainly in a lull in which we lack real creativity and new ideas. Unless we change our mindset back to that of American exceptionalism I fear you may be right and we may have actually peaked.

All these advances were because we believed that individuals could excel and surpass their peers. The "No child left behind" crap turned out to be "Rein in the kids Who are exceptional so the others don't look as inept."

"Group think" is the buzzword used for "hive-minded" and actual critical thought is anathema to who wish to further assimilate their power.

Where individual freedoms and liberties die, so dies the spirit of a nation.

I don't think I disagree with your premise about peaking as a society, but I do disagree on technology. The internet took off in the 90s and has completely changed how the world works. Technology has certainly advanced faster than the 30s to the 80s.

From a business standpoint, have "best practices" always been such a thing?? It seems like there's so much pressure & scrutiny these days to use "best practices." There's little room for creativity

No. I too was here during “the good old days” and let me remind you that they weren’t all thst good.

Things don’t change too much over time because people stay the same.

Technology will be the death of us. Much more simple times back then.

I, for one, hate the technology of today.

Ignorance is bliss
