This is a 5A high school (dropping to 4A next year) with a proud sports history in some sports. Their football, boys basketball, girls basketball teams all made playoffs - with girls basketball making the quarterfinals.

Their softball team went 0-25. They were shut out in 18 of those games.

Their baseball team went 0-19.

That’s rough.

That is beyond awful. It is sad to see it go that route, we were never the best but would win district every now and then in baseball with Hannan in it. We were competitive.

Demographics will do that to you with baseball

Pope John Paul

That’s how you know the Northshore as an area is maturing, when they get their first “black” school

Proud history is right- in 1994 Bill Stubbs best JT Curtis in the Dome and in 1995 they beat the crap out of Leesville team 39-7 who had the illustrious Cecil the Diesel Collins at running back. That area of Slidell has really taken a turn for the worst which was spurred by Hurricane Katrina as that whole area flooded ( 10 feet plus) of water and literally washed out a lot of the long time residents

Shocker I tell ya
A majority black school not great at 2 sports dominated by whites/hispanics

Don't feel too bad those poor kids. I hear their track and basketball programs are just fine

Any weeping for Pope John Paul's track team??

Correct answer. We had travel ball practice the other day on some community fields, and I saw what had to be a Dixie 9/10 softball team practice, majority black girls. Mind you my daughter is playing 10U travel. I think their 7 year coach pitch team could have beaten these girls 100-0. Zero talent, and then these same girls go play softball at your Peabody, Salmen, Edna Karr, Wossman, LaGrange. Schools would be smart to drop the sports and focus on their main ones. Or powerlifting and track too

It’s High school softball. Does it really matter?

As the director of the Texas Prep Softball Coaches Association, I say it definitely does matter.

I go out and watch games all season from the top teams to the inner city and small rural teams. I've seen 1-0 games and 28-22 games and the that I will tell you, is that the girls on all of the teams are trying their best. I talked to the players and coaches of one inner city Houston school this year and softball is what keeps these girls involved in the school and is a big motivation for them to go to school and try to do their best. Also for some, it's gets them off of the streets and into a supportive environment they may not have at home.

In the small rural schools, the girls tell they represent their town and most play multiple sports. I remember coaching in Plaquemines Parish and coached football, girls basketball, and softball and almost of my softball players played basketball too.

So your comment isn't true and makes me guess that you don't know what schools sports, win or lose, does to help these kids grow and learn about life.
