I was wondering this exact same question. I was a junior in the 96 baseball team that lost to them in the finals and a senior on the 97 team that beat them in semi-finals. Mike Fontenot was their SS.
They also had our number in football. Became our new temporary rival after Broadmoor fell off.

This is a 5A high school (dropping to 4A next year)
They were 4A not that long ago. Salmen and Franklinton definitely had some battles in football, the snow game in the playoffs will always be at the top of my list for a Louisiana high school football game.

Pope John Paul is moving from 2A to 3A, I believe they are the top growing catholic school in the NO area.

I’ve coached against their primary feeder school for years, so this isn’t the biggest surprise. The vast majority of the kids that play for them haven’t picked up a baseball or softball until they get to 7th grade. That’s not a recipe for success.

Small world. Y'all played St Thomas More in Lafayette in the semi-finals back in '96. Scoreless through 5, and then y'all busted it wide open late to win something like 7-0.
I was the starting pitcher for STM that day. Our starting SS was Scott Dohmann who went on the be the ace for ULL that went on to finish 3rd in the 2000 CWS.

I grew up there in the 80’s and went to a different high school. Salmen was always the trashy kids who lived on the poor side of town off Pontchartrain and Old Spanish Trail. They had good athletes though.
