From the Advocate ( LINK)
Hot take: This sounds tacky as hell. It's the same group that operates the Margaritaville places.

The Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center is getting a new life. Again.
Global travel company Travel + Leisure Co. announced that the downtown hotel at 201 Lafayette St. will be renovated into a Sports Illustrated Resort, a new concept by the company that models hotels in sport hotspots with the magazine’s branding. Renovations, which will total around $40 million, will start in 2027 and the rebranded hotel will open at the end of that year.
Hot take: This sounds tacky as hell. It's the same group that operates the Margaritaville places.

Sounds great for Baton Rouge. I’d go.

Such an historic hotel. This seems like a bad fit.
It was Huey's political center and he had a tunnel to the old capitol building.
Kip had Downtown BR on the right track and Broome just bent it over and buttfricked it.

As a conversion project, the existing 11-story hotel located at 201 Lafayette Street was purchased by Northshore Development and its investment partners, including Kituwah LLC, the economic development arm of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The project also includes investment from various businesspeople, including, but not limited to, Shaquille O’Neal, an LSU graduate.

Not a hot take. Can’t see this doing well in downtown BR.

30 years ago, not only was the ‘Baton Rouge Hilton’ located at the I10/I12 split (now the Marriott)- but ‘Sports Illustrated’ was a bar in Tigerland where i spent at least 4 or 5 nights per week when school was in session .. anyone else ancient like me will remember .
ETA i see that the poster directly above me remembers

The clientele will make downtown BR even more appealing.

Cause when you think of Sports Illustrated, you think of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Why can’t we just have something nice and classy in this city? Everything has to be some cheesy arse sports and/or gambling theme.
“Come stay at the historic Sports Illustrated Hotel brought to you by Fan Duel, Draft Kings, and Reebok. Sports betting kiosks are located at every table! Come for our 46 TV’s in our Walk-On’s Lounge and stay for our famous wings and mozzarella sticks!”
