Capitol House Hotel might be the last thing Baton Rouge has that could possibly considered an “Old Line” establishment. Sure it was shuttered for many years, but it actually has a legitimate history going back about 100 years. Really there’s no other establishment in the city that can claim that.

This pretty much makes perfect sense in the context of what Baton Rouge is now.

Any capital flowing into Baton Rouge is a positive thing. People follow development.

Siegen Lane used to be chicken and cow pasture. Develop the road and business came. Tax base expanded.

Baton Rouge needs a loop to really accelerate. But I’ll take a solid hotel brand.

It does when you realize that this city looks for a quick buck and doesn’t give a frick about anything else. I mean, who the frick even knew Sports Illustrated was still around? Maybe the Watermark will get bought out by K-Mart too.

You’re really comparing the development of vacant land to a defunct sports publisher buying an historic hotel downtown to turn it into some cheesy monstrosity that will go tits up in a few years?

I'm sure all the bougie Mardi Gras balls, black-tie weddings and other fancy doings will love celebrating at a classic BR property now called the "Sports Illustrated Hotel".

This is dumb. It's expensive and it will fail. Keep all the Hilton livery in storage because it will no doubt be going back to that before long.

The articles in SI are like the equivalent of some British tabloid that's about sports.

But I think that SI really gets its money from these stupid resorts nowadays. And they only write those stupid online articles that nobody reads because they have to (sort of) keep the writing side of the business around in order to get people to go to their resorts.

Catfish Town was great! We didn't know how great it was at the time. Funnel Cakes were on point too!

I wonder if this has anything to do with the new arena/events center? Regardless, I hate the idea. I love the Heidelberg Room at the Hilton. We use this hotel for corporate events a lot...probably not so much after this.

Hooker hotel. I guess the tunnel will get used again.

they have a point here.

You could put the fountain of youth downtown and it wouldn't matter. The thugs would piss in it. As long as you allow the thug/homeless element to exist in the area nothing will succeed. And BR shows no indication or seriously addressing that issue.

I don’t have an issue with the concept generally, but I hate that they are doing this to a historic property.

Such an historic hotel. This seems like a bad fit.

It was Huey's political center and he had a tunnel to the old capitol building.

Agreed…and maybe they should play on the prohibition/speakeasy theme or something like that.

I have wanted to stay at that location due to the proximity to the LSU football games however, after reading the reviews of the place, there’s no way I will pay that kind of cash. Apparently, the existing is just terrible, so they have to do something.

I think they'll be more focused on the sports betting. Have you seen how big it's become at L'Auberge?

Travel & Leisure is the parent company of Wyndham Destinations so my guess it will have a lot of timeshare members.
