The real answer if you are curious is that local PD don't really have a way of determining that. If it's a "sanctuary city" or "sanctuary state" and they can't communicate with ICE directly would be very hard to nearly impossible to figure it out. Now ICE would/should/could determine it in about 3 minutes, generally.

How is this issue not a bigger issue? As far as these drivers (some that can even read English) that are out there crashing left and right. This is what we hear about. I could only imagine how much this happens but goes unreported. This is absolutely insane. Prayers for the people and their families. Freaking Terrible.

I used to be CFO for a company that owned Volve 18-wheeler dealerships.
Hispanics and Middle Easterners would routinely buy used trucks with cash. I got major pushback from some Middle Easterners who wouldn't fill out IRS Form 8300 for purchases over $10K in cash. This was 10 years ago; I imagine it's exponentially worse now.
