It has to be a nail biter for the mariners in that region.

They'll drag sonar over the area to map out the sea floor. They do this with unmanned vessels. Once they have mapped the area and pinpointed where the mines are they will either cut them free of their cables if they're moored mines (to be shot and detonated once they surface) or they will use unmanned submersible vehicles to place explosives on mines that are sitting on the sea floor.

The Navy is good at this. They'll get it done.

Given time and patience, mines can be defeated.

I'm going to ask my son about this. He is in the Navy and may be able to shed some light on the strategy if the Iranians don't fix it.

We are likely shipping the mine hunting dolphins from Coronado to the ME to work the strait and find them.

Yes, the Navy has trained dolphins.

I only know because I've had this conversation with a buddy who is a Navy veteran. It's something I was curious about as well.

There is a ship called a minesweeper. We used them extensively in the pacific against the Japanese who laid a carpet of mines across the ocean.

Stupid question of the day. If Iran placed all these mines, how were they going to allow ships to start passing through if they decided to?

Did they know the locations and would guide ships around them? Where they going to remove them all?

Are all of our "mine sweepers" mothballed?

Attach the strongest magnets to the IRGC swim team and make them do laps.
Declare that area as a shrimp nursery and put up some no trawling signs in Chinese
Tell democrats & their NGO’s that illegals are off limits for taking that route to freedom because there is not enough enforcement to patrol it

Iran claims to have mined the shipping channel that is in international water.
There is another shipping channel that passes through Iranian territorial water, they are telling ships to use that channel and pay a toll.
