The last time a CWS Champion failed to make the NCAA Tournament the following year

I'm not saying this will happen, but it will if we don't get our shite together soon.
The last College World Series (CWS) champion to fail to make the NCAA tournament the following year was Mississippi State in 2022. After winning their first national title in 2021, the Bulldogs went 26-30 overall and 9-21 in SEC play in 2022, missing the 64-team tournament field entirely.
2021 Champion: Mississippi State
2022 Status: Missed NCAA Tournament
Context: This was the first time a defending champion missed the tournament since Coastal Carolina in 2017.
Other Notable Misses: NC State also failed to qualify for the 2022 tournament after participating in the 2021 College World Series.

Ole Miss fans on Twitter have been starting to post this fact. They’re going to be relentless to us itreguardless when our season ends.

Why not say it.... seems like a given unless college baseball starts allowing players to be traded. But then again, the coaches would frick that up also.

It’s only happened one time? I find that hard to believe actually

Why does anyone care what Ole Miss fans think? Their school has had almost no success in any major sport save for a fluke title back in 2022. Irrelevant program.

That is one I have never seen.

so not that long ago. Seems like it isn't uncommon.

Doesn’t matter. Tell them they’ll be in the discussion when they win 7 more titles and let them look retarded.

State has been arse since their natty, ole Miss has also basically been arse missing the tournament since theirs as well.
We should be better but I trust Jay will fix this in the offseason. It’s clear we have a championship hangover and missed on some top guys either due to timing or Jay was worried we would have a 24 full of talent but not gel as a team.
Jay is going to get his increased rev share and I’m sure the big baseball boosters will pump in more NIL. Also if we could fix when the portal opens that would help, it’s really dumb that it opened while we were in Omaha last year. Since we won’t be there we will have plenty of time.

The subject was "The last time". Here are more stats.
The NCAA college baseball tournament began in 1947. There have been 74 national champions crowned since that first tournament. Nine of those title winners repeated as the kings of college baseball the following season. It is difficult to go back-to-back even though USC made it look easy winning five straight from 1970 to 1974. Stanford, LSU, South Carolina and Oregon State have all gone back to back since then. It is a rarity to say the least.
What is interesting to note is that over a third of title winners missed the tournament the following season. Of the 74 teams who won it all only 45 of them made the NCAA tournament the following year. 29 national title winners have missed out on a chance to repeat by missing the regional round. That number will grow by one this year when Mississippi State joins the list.

Why are we talking about what other teams have done or not done? We are not in the same boat as them. We aren’t even in the same body of water. They are not us.

LSU should never miss the tournament in baseball. I don't think that is unrealistic to say
