Seems like a number of local non-University affiliates infiltrated the area.

Police in Tuscaloosa have closed the Strip after crowds in the bar-and-restaurant-filled district near the University of Alabama campus got too rowdy on Saturday afternoon.
Police said at 6 p.m. on Saturday that the Strip would be closed and would remain closed for the rest of Saturday night "to maintain public order."
Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner blamed out-of-towners for the disruption in Tuscaloosa after A-Day, saying the troublemakers were coming from Lipscomb, Bessemer, Ensley, Hale County, and elsewhere into the city to "cause crap" after the spring scrimmage in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Why is the spring scrimmage day the big day for out of towners to party?

Let's just say the better residents of the above communities could field some very good basketball teams.
