I am not exactly certain how the California governor‘s race works, so I could be way off, but from what I’m hearing and reading this could be a case of the Democrats not wanting Swalwell to split the democrat vote that might result in a Republican being elected as governor of California.
Democrats just don’t turn on each other like this no matter how completely f*cking sleazy their candidates are. Otherwise, they would have to get rid of their entire f*cking party of corrupt, demented, and deranged psychopathic filth.

First, I guarantee every single person in the Democrat party leadership was aware of all of Swalwell's foibles. He was banging a Chinese spy for crying out loud and IS STILL IN CONGRESS. Second, Swalwell likely isn't an outlier in either party, there are likely dozens of members with the same behaviors. The only difference is that he's now become a liability to the Democrats. Poor guy, he thought they actually liked him.
Not sure why the Democrats even care about the governorship of CA, it won't matter if a R wins, they're not going to be able to do anything. I guess that job is viewed as a stepping stone to the Presidency though and they want to keep it for a D.
