Thinking of giving them a try as an easy way to get protein and omega.
Any particular way you eat them or particular brands you recommend?

I started back a couple of months ago. I eat them straight from the can. They're actually pretty good and are similar in taste to Tuna(imo). I buy these:

Is this some kind of trend or something? When will it be over? I used to buy cans to snack on, now I can never find them, the stores are always sold out.

I’ve always kept them as an occasional meal replacement. My understanding is that you need to be careful about heavy metal accumulation if having very often.

Like almost all seafood, heavy metal exposure is a concern. While very low in mercury (sardines are both small and have very short lifespans), they do tend to pick up lead, arsenic and cadmium, and it tends to vary from brand to brand, source to source.
If you're trying to alternate off of, say, tuna because of mercury concerns, sardines are a good option (with the above caveats).

I eat a can or two of sardines or kipper snacks for breakfast every weekend. Kipper snacks in olive oil will keep me full and going until 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
King Oscar is good. Just ordered some Polar brand kipper snacks. Never had them before but the shipping for the King Oscar on walmart + was $5/can now for some reason.

I like the ones in Louisiana hot sauce.
Chicken of the Sea used to sell them in Sriracha, but they stopped a few years ago. They were great.

My brother, (stage 4 renal cell carcinoma survivor) as part of his treatment saw an adjunct nutritionist in Orlando. During treatment they were really in to ketogenic diet/long fasting. Part of that was what they called a "sardine fast" (which was not a fast, they just called it that.)
He did a 10 day sardine/oyster only diet. He said he never felt better in his life and lost a lot of weight. Ive been wanting to do it but I don't know if I can eat sardines. the skinless boneless I may be able to handle.

The bones are chewy, I hardly notice them when I have sardines

I've never had a sardine, but I've always wondered you just eat the whole thing out of the can?

Yeah.
I dump them out on a plate and place one on a cracker to eat it.
You don't even notice the bones.

I do King Oscar brand mackerel. Put it on a saltine with some hot sauce. Been doing this since I was a kid

Super interesting. Cancer cells only consume glucose so if you cut all glucose containing foods out of your diet it starves the cancer. Amazing something so simple could be effective.

Watch some videos of people opening cans of this, and realign your disgust meter.

I love sardines. Throwback to fishing with my grandpa and dad. I don't know many people who like them though.

Season Mackerel is really good too.

Sardines have been a regular snack of mine for nearly 2 decades now.
it is one of those foods where you absolutely need to pay a little more for the better brand. If you grab the dollar can of sardines of your local grocery market shelf its probably going to taste like boney cat food.
if you get premium skinless boneless filet packed in olive oil, now that is a real treat. Crown prince has been my go to brand for awhile now.
i eat them just out of the can as is.

I agree. The last time I found some I got the cans mixed up and bought some sardines and some mackerel. I only realized what I had done when I was throwing the can away.
