Is Trump leaving Iran too early? Is leaving the current leadership in place a good idea?

TBH, I'm not thrilled throwing all of this military weight at Iran only to leave whatever leadership is in place. Iran treats it's citizens like cannon fodder as long as their leadership remains in power.

Maybe Trump wants to give the people a chance to revolt. Or maybe he's ready to frick with Cuba and Greenland.

I think not finishing off Iran will bite us in the arse later.

They'll be hellbent on attacking America going forward, more than they ever were before. Gotta kill off all of them before leaving.

100%

Could you imagine the tweets by Trump prior to 2015 if Obama had done this? Trump needs to finish Iran, not cut and run when political necessity calls for it.

I think there’s a plan there. The WH probably figures Iran is weak enough for the citizens to overthrow the government. Especially if they’re armed.

Only time I've ever upvoted a post like this, but in this particular case, this is spot on. I don't know what Trump is thinking here.

Why are we bring another carrier group to the area if we are leaving?

Nothing changes regarding their intent. Before the strikes they lacked only the technology to inflict mass death, not the will. After the strikes we've set them back from having that technology even further. Their will to destroy the West remains unchanged.

This conflict is far from over. The IRGC never negotiates in good faith. This is nothing more than a stalling tactic.

basically his choice was totally obliterate iran and kill a bunch of innocent civilians or get out. Iran was well prepared and the United States doesnt have the technology to defeat Iran in the war it is fighting without tons of collateral damage across the middle east.

Yep, let’s let one radical Islamic country wreak terror on the target of its choosing over and over and over without consequence, even if we end up being the target.

You would have made a great advisor to Chamberlain.

If we dismantle the nuclear program and the UN gets access for inspections, then we fully lift sanctions.

Whoever is in charge will likely be beloved by the Iranian people and it could all work long term.

Sanctions are necessary but absolutely devastating to Joe Iranian.

I see that you are one of many sufferers of IDS. This could very well lead to the downfall of the right.

There's no way this is the end.

Israel and Iran haven't stopped firing at each other and I can't believe that Trump is going to agree to the tax in the straight, the funding to rebuild Iran and they get to continue enriching uranium.

I've been against this from the beginning but you can't stop now. Now you've cost 13 American lives and billions of dollars.

The end result cannot be more taxes on Americans for rebuilding Iran, Iran still gets to enrich uranium and now they gets a tax in perpetuity for an international waterway that's always been free.

There's no way this is the end

You cannot finish Iran when all of the world is against it happening. NATO has proved they are completely inept and worthless. You do what you can, reinforce your position for the future. And wait. I agree we probably should have stayed out of it, but we learned a valuable lesson. Our "allies" in Western Europe are spineless and not worthy of our investment and protection

If you compare Iran to a hornet's nest, then you've never had any experience with hornets.

While not a popular approach to take for message board purposes, I think this is an event where only time will truly tell.

If, within a few short years we are pretty much back to where things were at prior to the operation commencing, it will be more than valid to look back and say “what was the point?”

Yesterday, you literally said you had no problem with Trump striking Iran last year.

You are as consistent as a weather vane.

If I’m Iran, I will either develop a nuclear weapon or die trying. My take away from this is that I’m going to get bombed either way. Only by having a nuclear deterrent can I ensure any degree of sovereignty.
