Tucker - Trump's speech announced the end of the global American empire.

Hyperbole or nah?
Real Clear Politics.
quote:
TUCKER CARLSON: What’s happening in Iran is the end of the American Empire as we understand it. And that’s sad. Boohoo—empire’s dying.
But it’s not the end of the United States. It’s not the end of our influence on other nations—hopefully a positive influence. It’s not the end of our economy.
It’s the beginning of a very rough time in our economy, of course, but it’s hardly the end of it. What we’ve been doing for likely your lifetime, if you’re under 80, is—well, it’s not working anymore. It hasn’t actually helped the United States long-term.
Your grandkids, at this point, don’t have the promise of a better life than you had. So it’s not actually a successful experiment, and now it’s ending because we’ve reached the limits of our demonstrated power.
We can’t open the Straits of Hormuz. The president of the United States said that last night—someone else do it. So we’re done.
That’s okay. It was always going to end. Hopefully, we can get out without a nuclear exchange. But now it is ending.
And there’s going to be a lot of suffering and sadness as a result of that end. But there will also be—there is—an awful lot of promise. Promise that the United States can act in its own interest, that it can be reasonable, that it will not be governed by deranged people seized by hubris or get way out over their skis and get a ton of people killed. You don’t have to occupy countries you’ve never been to, and can’t identify on a map.
Real Clear Politics.

A bit of hyperbole in both directions.
- Our experiment isn't ending and the bleak outlook for our grandkids is overblown.
- I have zero faith that, even if Iran goes completely into the shitter, we won't repeat the same actions in another 20 years. Especially if we have a cult of personality leading the charge.

There are kernels of truth scattered through all of that.

Good. I don’t want a Global empire.
I just want to run the Western Hemisphere. The Eastern Hemisphere is a messy and war mongering place.

The underlined is my prayer for our future - a future I'll not see - I pray for my great-grandsons.

We could open up the Straight, IMHO.
It would just take a commitment that Trump doesn't want to use, and I'm not upset about that. He apparently thought he could accomplish this with half measures and finds himself in a terrible situation where he can't come close to winning without doing something worse than losing in embarrassing fashion (escalating to forever war).
I think Tucker is wrong

It's my opinion that Tucker has lost the plot.

I thought he laid out his point well. Whether it's 100% accurate? Hard to say. I do think America is diminishing relatively rapidly and that's not on Trump. We sold out our industrial might for stock prices, giving rise to China who has surpassed us in many respects. We blew up massive debt with war and corruption. We lost control of our culture and opened our borders to organized crime, disease and the third world. We ignore our own problems while we CONTINUE to start new wars abroad.
That won't bear the weight of "empire" and I don't think that's entirely a bad thing, as Carlson also pointed out. The question is how to turn our government back to "we the people" instead of a machine up for bid to the deepest pockets.

I would assert he actually seems to be sort of turning into it here.

Trump specifically said in all 3 of his campaigns no more wars in the Middle East.
But hey, I'm sure he's gotten a congrats call from W.

This is just as much about payments as other geopolitical reasons. Both Iran and Venezuela were selling oil outside the petrodollar to China. Settlement in yuan circumventing US sanctions. Crypto settlement is coming.

Not in the slightest. The world is headed down the shitter, Trump is just slowing it down slightly. It's inevitable.
