Looking to get a physician I work with a few bottles of pinot noir, and I have no idea about wine as I am not a wine drinker.
In short order, he recommended a surgeon for my wife for some reconstruction post-cancer surgery, and the surgeon he suggested came to be life-changing for my wife and me after so many complications the first go around.
I am willing to pay around $40-50 a bottle, assuming I can get good bottles at that price. Someone suggested The Prisoner as a good bottle. Any help is really appreciated.

Prisoner isn't a Pinot, it's a blend with little (no?) pinot. But it's a crowd pleaser and will likely be enjoyed by people who like big, fruit bomb reds. And that style appeals to a lot of people who would tell you they like pinot. In short, it may not be a bad idea, but if he's a wine guy it might not be of too much interest - although I'm sure he'd still appreciate the gesture.
Any Thomas Rivers Brown pinot is a reliable bet IMO. Rivers-Marie entry level pinot is about 50 bucks I think.
ETA: The pinot equivalent of The Prisoner is probably Belle Glos or similar - which is in your price range and will please a lot of people who aren't super into wine.

En Route Pinot is damn good for that price point.
Russian River Valley is a great area for Pinot, along with Willamette Valley in Oregon.
Belle Glos has good ones in that price point. You can maybe find Merry Edwards or Gary Farrell in and around that range as well.

If you want a blend, get Venge Scout. It’s better than Prisoner.

La Crema Russian River Valley
Right in your price point.

Best wine in your price range is Venge Scouts Honor which is 75% zin ...trust me everybody likes this wine. It's best wine to have with a good ole ribeye. It's about $36. Hope Ur wife's recovery is complete. I she had breast cancer I would hope y'all found Dr. Trahan in NO at the Center for Breast Reconstruction. Only center in US dedicated to just breast cancer.

The 2023 Zéphirine Pinot Noir LINK
It's a little outside of the price range you mentioned but it's better than all of the grocery store still that's been suggested so far.
Except Belle Glos, that's a good wine.

Roserock Eola Amity Hills is in the price range, widely available, and a much better wine than Belle Glos Clark and Telephone, IMO. YMMV

Presquille. You’d probably have to order it.

Anything out of the Russian River Valley should be great. That valley is known for Pinot.
J Winery is my favorite, and sometimes, you can find the RRV bottle in store for around $40ish.
I don’t recommend the $20 from the grocery store.

You can get a good French Burgundy for that price. A very good one for a little more. That is what I would get. Go to MartinWine Cellar or your favorite wine store and ask for recommendations.
