I know that humans need fun distractions..

That said, how much time have you spent obsessing/debating over the outcome(s) of sporting events that you have no real control over?

How often has a loss or down season affected your personal life?

Why do you derive joy when your team wins? What has it actually done for you?

Sometimes I wish American culture wasn't so sports centric... Bread and Circuses

LMAO “Bread and Circuses”

Okay Robespierre, I’m sure you’ll drink a bottle of water full of microplastics tomorrow and eat some chicken that’s lowering your Testosterone. We all are.

But hey, let’s look down on the guy watching a Cubs game. Everything would be better if “sportsball” wasn’t a thing!

I'll watch sports, but I'm no longer invested. Definitely not watching or listening to sports talk shows. A lot of sports have been completely ruined:

College sports: NIL
NBA: no one cares about the regular season; players are extremely unlikable
MLB: no salary cap
NFL: too many commercials, too many flags, and rule changes suck balls

I'm at this point too, although I think it's more due to age than anything. Like I lived and died with my teams in my 20's, but now that I'm in my 40's I don't let it affect my mood at all. I'll definitely watch my teams or big events if I'm home, but I'm not planning my days around them anymore. I've got way too much other stuff that stresses me out now.

I'm where you are. It's hard for me to judge because i definitely spent way too many years making sports an idol in my life but it hurts me to see how many people still have their priorities out of line, especially given what sports have become.

I always say if I devoted the brain power I’ve used on sports over the years to something like physics, I’d have won a Nobel Prize by now.

Much less now that I'm in my 30s. A big game loss only gets me down for an hour or so, then I move on. Excessively obsessing over a loss, is a manifestation of something deeper actually wrong in a person's life.

Me too, and I never missed ATH and PTI in my 20s.

According to Reddit intellectuals it has been decreed that it is not gay if it is a feminine penis. Checkmate, bigot!

Exactly.

I was thinking about giving an actual response, but I just couldn’t get past that fricking “sportsball” word. Not only does he not even want a real response, he doesn’t deserve the thought that would go into crafting one. What a fricking douche canoe.

But I will respond to you and the other posters in a similar stage of life. When I was 10-18 or so, any LSU football loss would ruin my entire week. Any Braves postseason series loss would probably ruin my month. But the losses have progressively gotten more tolerable with age. Especially after having kids.

In my mid 40s now, and the losses don’t bother me at all really. I still enjoy the big wins. Get positive feelings from those. But losses? Basically just an “oh well. On to the next.”

Wow, this really made me realize how much corporate sportslop I consume. Sweaty and otherwise talentless men crashing into each other really is the opium of the masses and a distraction from Epstein/war/cost of living/retarded culture war issue.

yep, in my early 20s LSU football was everything. Now...if we win...awesome, usually lifts my mood but i dont have the time or energy to let a loss affect me.

In my 40s with 3 sons all doing their own thing....yea I dont have time for that shite.

like you said...i still enjoy the games, especially the big wins but im not getting anxiety over things like many do.

I go through these feelings from time to time. These days, the level of excitement I feel for certain things sports-related pales in comparison to how I used to feel. Same thing for getting pissed off. At times, I wish I was as passionate as I was as a kid. I think it’s good to have those things in life. But yeah…winning and losing doesn’t pay my bills.

I watch 3 teams on a consistent basis.

My 14 year old son's team.
My 13 year old son's team.
The Atlanta Braves.

Everything else is just background noise/social viewing.
