The most common Cajun surname is Hebert. That surprised me.
Boudreaux and Thibodeaux came in eighth and ninth.

Do you personally know someone or used to know someone from all 20 surnames on the list?
I’m 18-20. Don’t personally know a Thibodeaux or a Benoit.

If ever you go up to New England states and Nova Scotia general area, always weird to see the Bourgeous names flow.

In a layover in Tennessee in the 1980s, I decided to try to connect with a friend who was in school there.
I was shocked to find only 3 Bordelons listed.

Fun fact: some names typically thought of as French are German, eg, Trosclaire, Zeringue, Haydel.

The name Fontenot is technically not Cajun, as it came directly from France, and not with the Acadians.

Romero is on that list
Not many Spanish/Italian Cajuns from what I remember in LA history
It’s like other Spanish/german names that mixed with the Cajuns in the 1800s (Miguez, Ramirez, Hymel, Toups, Waguespack, etc)
