People with young kids, how did you approach learning how to tie shoes with them?

So when I was in school we learned how to tie shoes in first grade. Well, nowadays they don’t teach kids how to tie shoes in school and all the kids wear these slip in style shoes. My oldest is 8 and he doesn’t know how to tie shoes yet nor do any of his friends. I guess we need to buy him some shoes with laces and teach him how. I don’t even know if you can buy kids shoes with laces anymore. Have other people had this experience?

My kid is no longer little, but it's the same as it ever was. You sit down with them and show them how to tie shoes. Then you repeat the next day. Then the next day. Then again.
Eventually they do it on their own.

You really should have spent five seconds looking before saying this

You can sit there and learn to tie your shoes, or you can get the wooden spoon.

For starters, I already knew how to tie shoes, so that made teaching them much easier.

You teach them with pain.

When your oldest messes up, you smack his hand with a wooden dowel. He will get tired of his hands hurting and get it right

My Pops threw me into a big hole in the ground full of shoes and I had to tie a bunch of them before I could get out.

Oh wait, that was swimming.

You are relying on schools to teach your kid how to tie their shoes? My goodness.

My kids school does this in kindergarten. They even make a big deal about it and get to hang up a construction paper tied shoe on the wall when they can show that they can do it.

The YouTube way is a lot easier to teach. Make the 2 loops, then cross them over and around each other twice. Only downside I’ve noticed is the 1st loop isn’t always tight, which then defeats the purpose of the double knot

When I was 4 my dad told me that he would give me $100 if I learned to tie my shoe by the end of the day. I figured it out.

First, I would think to myself “I need to teach my son how to tie his shoes.” Then I would teach him one step at a time.
