Uthmeier sent a letter to the league urging it to stop applying the Rooney Rule to NFL teams in Florida — which include the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If the league does not comply, Uthmeier threatened that he would consider “a civil rights enforcement action.”

I don't blame him. bullshite racial affirmative action is a farce and serves zero purpose in situations like this and should be eliminated.

Crazy that it took this long for someone to point out the obvious.

I wonder if the this includes the third-round compensation picks teams get when their minority coordinators become HC.

Another aspect rarely mentioned about this. The players on the hiring team suffer if a team hires solely on race based vs merit. They want the best coach because they make more money if team does better.

Yeah, I can’t believe that is even a real thing. Absolutely absurd.

The NFL is the most hypersensitive PR league in the world. Any bad publicity got the is seen as a giant issue.

I'm sure Texas and others may follow. I could even see the DOJ civil rights division filing suit to take the burden/target off the individual states.

it does

quote:

Uthmeier noted in his letter that expansions of the Rooney Rule now include women as a categorized qualifying minority and criticized provisions awarding third-round draft picks to teams that develop minority talent into GMs or head coaches as well as requiring the employment of a female or minority coach as an offensive assistant.

Uthmeier argued that Florida law bars employers from making hiring or workplace decisions based on protected characteristics such as race or sex, including any practices that could limit opportunities for certain groups.

This is definitely long over due. The NFL is a merit based system, like many sports. You can’t play if you can’t perform. Black athletes can outperform many white athletes at certain positions in certain sports. You don’t see the same reverse arguments for white players to have more sporting opportunities at the expense of black athletes. This is why the Rooney Rule needs to end.

The entire concept is ridiculous and could not stand up to even the slightest bit of logical scrutiny.

I could argue and win against any NFL lawyer with zero preparation, and I'm not an attorney.

I think it’s absurd to give incentives for a professional competitive sport over who they hire. Why should they get extra draft picks over coaching hires? That seems so crazy for a competitive sport to do. That’s fine you support it. I don’t agree with it.
