The potential UNC basketball opening may really throw things off for LSU

LSU is taking a massive risk by putting all of their eggs in one basket and waiting til April 1 to save $2 million to potentially hire Will Wade. What if he decides to stay put? What is he decides to go to another big opening?
UNC will likely hire Golden, Oats or some other good coach at a good program. Those programs will instantly be more attractive to any of LSU’s coaching candidates. Then what?
LSU had the perfect opportunity to hire Wade last week, but didn’t. The longer this drags out, the more it feels like LSU will screw up this hire.
For those tired of hearing about Will Wade, he is the only real potential coaching hire that would draw much needed immediate interest to the program. We aren’t getting Coach K, Billy Donovan, Brad Stevens or Phil Jackson.

If LSU waits until April 1st they're doing so because Wade has already given them his assurances that he's coming.

No one is picking LSU over UNC in basketball and UNC doesn't want Will Wade. This will not affect us at all.

It's obviously not something LSU is concerned about, since several quality coaches have already been hired by other schools.

I’m just guessing, but based on the reported relationships Wade has with Rousse, Mallett and Schroyer (if he is in fact coming to LSU), I think it’s not likely he backs out of any commitment he’s made to them.

Coping is a mfer.
Wade ain't coming for the 647th time.

Nowhere in my post did I say anything like that. Plenty people would pick Florida or Bama over LSU.

Edit: did not realize Roy played for UNC. that's my bad

Roy Williams played at UNC and was an assistant there for about a decade before going to Kansas. Thus his point of they hire one of their own.

Not sure how folks like you can function in society with that level of anxiety.
Wait like four or five days to save 2 million and if it doesn’t work out, go hire someone else.
It’s not that hard.

Could be wrong but I don't know why Golden would leave Fla. He has already won a Championship there and then a 1 seed the next year. Sure UNC has a much longer tradition and history but why leave.

Kentucky did this two years ago. They got rid of Cal because they were certain, with all of their prestige and money, to get a big-time coach....and everyone of those guys turned them down. Pope was somewhere in the range of their 7th or 8th choice

Most places hire coaches before April 1st. Meaning, the good ones are typically gone by then. That is the point.

I think it is pretty clear by LSU's inaction that either MM is returning for next season or LSU already has an informal agreement with a new coach. The first wave of coaching hires has already passed and LSU didn't get in the mix. That suggests LSU isn't "looking around". Yet, LSU has also said nothing about the future of McMahon even though the AD has to know there is speculation/uncertainty in the fanbase on his future.
I don't think the UNC job moves the needle one way or the other for LSU

Wade's buyout drops to $3M from $5M on April 1
This is why it wont be announced before then, but a deal seems to be in place
