What makes Curiel a better prospect than Brown?

If you would’ve asked me this question before this season started I would’ve said that Curiel is more consistent and has a better glove, but Brown’s defense has been more impressive so far this year and Brown definitely has more pop in his bat with more power potential. For all of the MLB scouts on here, what makes Curiel a better prospect than Brown?

Curiel is more disciplined at the plate. He has patience to get a pitch he is looking for. Has a very good eye. Will hit the ball anywhere on the field. You won’t see him strike out looking too often. A contact hitter.
Brown is a power hitter. A very good power hitter at that.

It’s all based on projection and ceiling. Sure brown is stronger and more groomed at this time, but the scouts and “experts” seem to think that he’s close to his ceiling/peak, whereas Curiel isn’t even close to what his ceiling is. He’s tall, fast, lean and a lot more room to grow. With his bat to ball skills, swing, etc, will translate much better to the next level and has a lot of untapped power. Once he fills out his frame, those doubles and balls that are landing at the track and at the base of the wall are going to be 415 ft homers. He’s going to be a .290+ 30 homer guy in the MLB in a few years.

How has he not filled out his frame? Does he not have access to the best strength training facilities and nutrition programs in the world? What is he going to get in minor league baseball in that regard that he isn’t going at LSU?

Am I the only one that thinks Curiel’s defense is a bit overrated? He’s definitely solid, but I haven’t seen anything to think he’s much more than that. He seems kinda clumsy out there.

Brown is the better player now and will be the better pro player also

Hasn’t this been the story on him since early high school? He’s old, draft eligible sophomore, maybe it’s not going to happen.

I think Brown is playing his way into the first round but scouts see Christian Yelich 2.0 in curiel. His contact and defense will get him to the majors and he’ll have a season or 2 with lower HR numbers, but he’ll develop more strength and refine that swing for more pop through that time to become a 30 HR guy. He plays a premium position also

He is filling out. He gained at least 10 lbs of muscle in 1 year here. It doesn't happen overnight.

They are both 6'2".
Curiel would be ahead in fielding ability as he usually looks smoother out there, even though they both have great range. Brown is faster, has more power, and a cannon for an arm. Over the past two seasons, you could say say that Curiel is a better contact hitter, but that certainly isn't the case if you are only looking at this year. Brown has the same amount of singles, but his average is better b/c he has 10 more home runs on top of that.
I think Curiel is a more heady player than Brown. Brown is more susceptible to making a mistake on the bases.
My uninformed, honest opinion is that if the season were to continue at this pace, scouts' opinions would change. Most LSU talking heads were predicting Brown to hit about 15 home runs on the season without having to share time. I don't think anyone realized that Brown had the power he's been showing this year.

I'm not sure this is accurate. I think that brown was actually considered more raw being that he was primarily a pitcher when he came in.
He will scream up the draft boards as a five tool player at this pace. I'm not saying he'll be picked before Curiel, but I am saying that if he stays on the trajectory he's out he'll be a top 100 pick

Players generally peak around age 28. If he has it in him to have a 30 HR season in the majors. He’s only 20. People are making judgments about his frame and progress. He’s currently adapting to his added weight and muscle.
Minor leagues offer more repetition than college.

He isn't a better prospect. Sometimes the scouts get it wrong.

Brown hit 0.188 against lefties a year ago. If he can get that into the mid to upper .200s, he may catch Curiel in terms of a prospect.
