Indiana Basketball: ? Paying a price for the football win?

So Auburn's win in a SEC championship game gets them into the NCAA bracket and kicks Indiana out?
History means something only until it doesn't.
There are lifelong Indiana citizens who eat, sleep and breathe Indiana Basketball who are having a miserable Thursday, today.

Yes, I'm sure they are miserable after winning a natty

This is true, but no matter what anyone says they will gladly give up a basketball championship for a football championship - just like every other school.

I'm pretty sure Bama would give up one of their Saban titles for a basketball championship.

Needs the colts to move and IU football to suck again

Ah the old "new standard" win the whole Dance or make the Final Four or you're irrelevant tag in this ridiculous modern sports mindset.
2013 won Big10 and spent ten weeks ranked as the #1 team in the country...#1 Tourney seed. (Big10 7 bids, was runner-up in NCAA Tournament)
2016 won Big10, ranked #9 in the Country heading into the Tournament. (Big10 , 7 bids to the Dance)
But yeah, irrelevant those years.

Don’t get blown out by Northwestern in a must win game.

Has been irrelevant since Bobby Knight was their coach. RIP Coach Knight.

Well, they had a pretty amazing Monday in January to help soothe it. And considering they've only made 41 of the 86 total NCAA tournaments, I'm sure they'll get over it just like they did 45 times before.

Their entire history is based on one coach. Outside of the Knight years, they’ve been a largely irrelevant program.

They got to a title game with Mike Davis as HC

Indiana basketball hasn’t been Indiana basketball for as long as I can recollect.

Considering they won 2 National Championships under Branch McCracken, albeit a very long time ago, and lost a National Title under frickin Mike Davis, your statement is false.
Tom Crean had 2-3 amazing IU teams. They should have won it all in 2012-2013, and never should have lost to that Syracuse team. Cody Zeller, Victor Oladipo, Christian Watford, Jordan Hulls, Will Sheehey, and a young Yogi Ferrel was good enough to win it all.
What has really killed Indiana Basketball boils down to 4 different things for them.
Having to fire Kelvin Sampson for recruiting violations. Kelvin Sampson gets fired mid season while he has IU at 22-4. Then we see what Sampson goes on to do at Houston.
Losing in the sweet 16 to that Syracuse team, with an IU team who I think still was the best in the country.
Making 3 straight bad hires in a row for Basketball.
Archie Miller was terrible. He was hardly even a good mid-major coach. Hiring a 70 year old Mike Woodson who had already flamed out in the NBA because of “muh, he’s one of us.” Now hiring Darian Devris, who was solid at Drake but showed nothing to say he could coach in the Big 10 at IU. He didn’t even have a great season his 1 year at WV.
Lastly, missing out on their opportunity to hire Dusty May. May is an IU alum and was a part of their National Title runner up team to Maryland in 2002. IU keeps Woodson 1 year too long, and everybody knew Woodson was a lame duck, they miss out on May who had already taken FAU to a Final 4. Low and behold, Dusty May has Michigan at 29-2.
So had IU never had to fire Sampson he likely goes to a couple of Final 4’s and gets at least 1 title, and had IU canned Woodson when they should have and hired May, they would be a top team in the country right now.
IU Basketball can still be great, they just keep whiffing at the plate when it comes to pushing the right buttons for the Basketball program.

Your opinion doesn't count. You don't even watch Alabama basketball.

quote:so 3 years out of the last 25. Is that supposed to be acceptable for a program that considers itself a blueblood of the sport? They are what Nebraska is to football and what usc is to baseball.

Big10 , 7 bids to the Dance

That IU team was a beast and just had the misfortune of a really bad matchup against Syracuse’s zone.
