Washington state, once famous for having 0 income tax, passes 10% income tax on 1m+

My hunch is that this will cause significant capital and tax flight
I don’t get it.
Washington, especially seattle, is known for its commerce and innovation. The state is high on annual rankings. Why throw a wrench into something that works?

This will obviously eventually extend beyond millionaires.
They all know this
Curious as to the figures they put for expected revenue for this new tax.

Because the lawyers and politicians use our taxes as their personal piggy bank. They all think that once they get in office, this is how THEY become rich.

The Seahawks, Kraken, and Mariners won’t be happy about this.

Wish they'd do this in Colorado leading to a mass exodus. The locals can't even afford to live there.

They'll piss that money away on liberal pet projects that don't actually do anything.

Would support this while quietly moving out to not pay taxes.

Because the folks that are for this have this mindset that they got the rich folks and they gonna finally pay way more now.
Except, the businesses, will leave Seattle and this won’t help Seattle at all

if you move to our state and vote democrat within the first 25 years then you will be taxed with interest up to 12% of each years annual income in those 25 years.

The married thing is a pretty big caveat.
A single person making over $1m is much different than filing jointly for $1m. That's a pretty low damn bar for married couples if this is being framed as tax on the super wealthy.
ETA:
Unless I'm misreading.

I have good friends that live in Kirkland (suburb of Seattle) and they make close to $1 million a year combined and have been exploring leaving for a year or so now.
This is bad policy and those with the means will leave and take their incomes, spending, and companies with them.
Good luck, Washington. Killing the golden goose never backfires, no?
