What was your first real job in high school? Like where you had to clock in, etc.

Mine was Winn Dixie as a freshmen in high school. Usually worked 3 days a week after school 6-7 hours each shift and then both Saturday and Sunday for 8-9 years each day.

Solid 30+ hours per week as a 14 year old.

Child Labor Laws were a lot different back in 1995, I think.

I got my first real job while living in Ketchikan, Alaska. I worked at a sea cucumber processing plant. Wish I could remember the name of it. But I only worked there for like two weeks before I got hired at Ward’s Cove Fish Cannery, which paid much better. Worked there the entire summer. This would have been 1985.

A&P on college drive after school when I was around 16. A&P was a grocery store for all you non baby-boomers. Bagger and cart getter.

Some old rich lady was very particular about how her groceries were bagged and was known by the managers. She complained about me one time after I tried always to be very careful how I bagged her shite in the particular way she wanted. Will never forget that. Least I know that bitch has got to be dead by now.

This is strikingly similar to a John Updike short story titled “A&P”

Piggly Wiggly. Back when they bagged the groceries and took them out to the car. $5.15 an hour I think.

McDonald’s. It was ran well, a lot of young folks mixed in working, and good customer service expected. And it was still decent enough to eat. Not like it is today.

That’s pretty sad. Is there a job lower than an assistant to the workers that clean shitters?
