Looks like the guilds don't want AI blowing up their monopolies.

Last week, the New York state Senate Internet and Technology Committee unanimously passed Senate Bill S7263. The bill would hold AI companies liable specifically for harm caused by chatbots performing tasks that, if carried out by a human, would constitute unauthorized practice of a licensed profession, such as providing medical diagnoses or legal counsel.

As a lawyer who incorporates limited AI use (only with signed client permission) in my practice, I say that's beyond retarded

Another way of saying this:
New York bill would make information gathering more costly.

Limiting access to information, authoritarians at work.

The ABA will want AI to get a useless undergrad degree before it can go to law school.
There was a time you could get a law degree in undergrad and take the bar exam. Still can in most countries.
Not here.

Good. Let's start figuring out where the boundaries are.
If certain Republicans had their way NY, nor any other state, would even be able to make legislation like this right now.

Claude is already a way better lawyer than most senior associates and a better legal writer than most lawyers I’ve worked with at any level.

AI is the most powerful economic and social changing mechanism perhaps in human history. 99.9999% of the people know nothing about it and 100% don’t have a clue about the long term ramifications.
Laws and rules must be considered. Practical and scientific questions should continue in earnest.

I cannot imagine MD's pushing that BS.
I'd hope the backing is sub-MD driven, but I've no information as to the origins at all.

I hope you aren’t using a can product off the shelf cause you’re opening yourself up for huge attorney client privilege issues.

Yeah it’s a BS concerned cooked up by WestLaw, Harvey and old farts (older farts than me) who realize they’re mostly obsolete.
If you upload opposing counsel’s complaint or brief and do good prompts for a reply then there is no atty-client privileged info anywhere. The attys prompt could be work product. But who cares? It’s nothing and no one is ever going to see it

That is an asinine bill. The AI instructions regarding root canals at home can help so many.

I have no problem with a patient using AI to help sort out their symptoms.

Damn it. Two AI downvotes already.

Have you seen Mattels latest version of its Operation game with real medical AI?

The agreement covers this and limits what I can use and explains how I can use it. I'm not uploading sensitive documents to free ChatGPT.
