But…. According to BRPD spokesperson……

“Detrimental” to the case?

Baton Rouge restaurant shooting: Two wanted after dispute over food order LINK

They called back to the restaurant expressing their dismay with their order. They were very irate over the phone. They were using derogatory language, cursing out the employee on the phone,” Watts said. “Then they show up back at the restaurant. They continued with the arguing and cursing and using foul language and being very abrasive to the employee at that establishment.”

Watts said the restaurant owner asked the two to leave, but they refused. The owner was shot in the midsection and transported to the hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Staff used code word to reach safety
Watts said restaurant staff had been trained with a code word ahead of the incident.

“That employee did, or that owner of that business did educate her staff with a code word, which is very detrimental in this case because it allowed those employees to get to safety, alert authorities, and we could respond in a timely manner,” Watts said.

Employees used the code word to hide in the walk-in freezer and call police.

I would hope the public info officer would know what detrimental meant, but apparently not. I threw it in AI and asked it what does it say:

quote:

It looks like the sentence was spoken very poorly, so here’s what it actually means in clear English:

The person is saying that the business owner trained their employees to use a special code word in emergencies. Because of this:

The employees were able to recognize the danger,
Use the code word to warn each other,
Get to safety,
Alert law enforcement, and
As a result, authorities were able to respond quickly.

So in short:
“The owner trained the staff to use an emergency code word, and that training helped them escape, notify authorities, and allowed us to respond quickly.”

If you want, I can rewrite the original sentence so it makes clearer sense.

It’s not like BRPD is Bunkie PD. It’s the damn Capitol city of LA and a decent sized PD at that. I am certain there are officers with a command of the English language working there. How do you let this idiot become the PIO? Is there not an interview process for this relatively important public facing position?

Between the gunshot and the first loud “Oh shite” I think the code word may have then been irrelevant. Maybe “ Oh shite” was the code word though.
