Why is the West End (Lakeview nola) I10 entrance so short?

I never really have issue merging if I don't have an idiot in front me. Today I was behind two cars that got to the merge and stopped. Complete stop and I almost got rear ended. One was a Tesla and had more than enough speed.
But seriously this is easily the shortest merge point I can think in the state. Only in Los Angeles have I seen such short merges.

Seems like they need to add a lane or change the geometry of the merge.

And it doesn’t help that people coming off 10 dgaf and will not even think of slowing down or changing lanes to let you in.
It really is a civil engineering head scratcher

I always get over of I'm coming from the city. But you're right.
Normally I find i can speed up and judge a hole. But if someone stops then the whole line stops and needs to basically pull out on the interstate at 0mph.

Functionally obsolete is the technical term.

There’s a yield sign at that exit, so technically you should be prepared to stop.

I have a couple friends who are retired from DoTD. I still gripe to them about it, even though they had nothing to do with it.
Notice the shadow of the tree in the lower right of your photo. They threaded the approach ramp around the north side of that tree. If they had laid it out around the south side, the merging lane would be twice as long.

Used to see this happen all the time on this entrance. People are so stupid.

So that 65 yo widow has a place to drive 30mph on the interstate.

This is the earliest satellite shot of that area I can find, and it seems crazy that they would have designed such an odd, curvy, entrance all because one tree.

The Acadian and Perkins westbound on ramps on I-10 on the Perkins overpass are as short as engineeringly impossible. Definitely the shortest in the state.

I used to live on Acadian for years. I know what you're talking about. It's short but you are almost straight before the merge. The one I'm talking about your coming off a tight turn then into a no merge. .

The I-55 /I-12 eastbound in Hammond is pretty short too. Can't believe they don't have more wrecks there.

That’s true. Both of these examples are straight up dangerous if you don’t know about them, but the interstate to interstate ramp is crazy because of the incoming speed from I55

It's better today, but 25 years ago, there were routine wrecks of 18 wheelers on that clover leaf because it is incredibly tight to begin with and then the merge is really short, almost non existent

That’s a bad one but I feel like the Ramos from downtown BR onto 110 are more of an intersection than a ramp.

I take Veterans to Oaklawn just so I don't have to use that merge lane.
