So this is a sequel to the one people hated?

If so, kudos to the studio for course correcting

The Urban "Old Man Johnny" trailer hooked me in.

Will I need to watch the one with the whatever dude?

The trailer was ok for me, then Johnny Cage says "It's show time", the classic music drops in, and I was sold.

Agreed. I liked the first one a lot and didn't fully get the hate that it got. I had my gripes about it (like the dumb rando dude they threw in as the main character). But outside of that I thought it was really well done and the SFX and style/feel of the movie were great.

I wish we would've actually gotten to the actual tournament happening, but it didn't bother me since it was basically setting up the sequel. IIRC the first one was in like 2021 though, right? So waiting four years for this one sucks arse. But I'm glad it's finally almost here. And I think Karl Urban is a great choice for Johnny Cage. Hopefully it's good too.

I do wish we got it released on streaming as well as theaters though...that was one thing that was great about the first one. You didn't have to go to a theater to see it.

Wait, was Cole even in the trailers? That guy is definitely about to get killed off in the first 10 minutes

That is a fricking Mortal Kombat movie right there. The first one in this reboot was more like a prologue. I am all in...Kung Lao? frick yes.

Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage kind of reminds me of William Zabka in Cobra Kai and I like it.

And now I want to see a spinoff of Cobra Kai where Johnny reboots Mortal Kombat starring himself as Johnny Cage.

They'll always have me when they drop "GET OVER HERE".

Looking forward to it. Now gonna go play some on the XBOX between sessions.

I know I watched the first one, but for the life of me I can't remember anything about it.

I like Karl Urban, but he seems too brutty to be Johnny Cage. I want a pretty boy who doesn't look like he can kick your arse but he will kick your arse.

And definitely looking forward to this movie. It looks awesome.

I'm in the same boat...not because I didn't like it but because I also watched the Mortal Kombat shorts that were produced in the late 2010s and also the games lately have basically been glorified movies with some gameplay mixed in (and the stories have been really good). All that to say I've gotten all of those things mixed up and can't really remember what was in that movie and what was in the other media.

Apparently fatalities mean nothing and people can be brought back from the dead. Kano shouldn't be in the sequel either.

I mean, isn't this the whole problem with making a movie based on the mortal kombat game? How would you propose they resolve the fatality conundrum outside of bringing them back from the dead?

the first one came out during covid so I believe that's why it went straight to HBO MAX
