Looks like the cartels have been invading a few of the airports in Mexico today. Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta so far in the news

quote:

Flights to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara airports have been diverted or canceled by major airlines, including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

The Mexican government released a statement on Feb. 22 that the Special Forces of the Mexican Army planned and executed an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, to arrest the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rube´n Oseguera Cervantes, commonly known as "El Mencho." Cervantes was killed at the scene.

The United States Department of State Consular Affairs posted on X at 1:17 p.m. that U.S. citizens in the following locations should shelter in place until further notice: Jalisco State (including Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (including Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State. Canada also issued a high-risk travel advisory for Mexico, advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel.

We are supposed to be flying in Sunday for an insurance conference in Puta De Mita. If the conference is cancelled, then we will definitely be canceling the trip. Anyone have any idea how likely the flights/ hotels/ conference will be cancelled?

Supposed to fly into CUN on Tuesday but have canceled. Just don’t want to deal with the possibility that the situation goes south. If it had been next week (or maybe end of this week), I’d have a taken a wait and see approach.

We flew back from CUN on Saturday night. Flights were delayed hours bc of weather and that airport is an absolute nightmarish zoo, but the trip itself was amazing. The Valentin Imperial is the greatest resort we’ve ever been to. Absolute perfection. Thanks to the poster who mentioned it on here last year.

Except when they shoot up a resort from a jetski.

I love how committed people are to being so sanguine about this.

I checked in with some friends who are in cancun now. They're staying in a big resort, didn't even know what I was talking about
