If Trump bombs Iran do you think his poll numbers will improve?

Current polling on the issue:

SSRS/University of Maryland poll from February 5-9, 2026, 21% of Americans favor the U.S. initiating an attack on Iran under current circumstances, while 49% oppose it and 30% are unsure.

Economist/YouGov poll from January 30-February 2, 2026, showed 48% opposing U.S. military action in Iran, compared to 28% in support and 24% unsure. A separate YouGov poll in early February reinforced this, with 48% opposing action.

Quinnipiac University's January 14, 2026, poll indicated 70% of voters believe the U.S. should not take military action against Iran even if the regime kills protesters, versus 18% who support involvement. This sentiment held across groups: 80% of independents, 79% of Democrats, and 53% of Republicans opposed intervention.

The Marist Poll from January 16, 2026, reported 57% of Americans opposing U.S. military action in Iran, with 42% in support. Over 80% of Democrats and 60%+ of independents opposed it.

The poll numbers say no, Trump's numbers would not improve however generally speaking a wartime president always seems to get an initial positive bump in approval numbers with one significant caveat: a direct attack on the U.S., whether false or not.

One thing this potential Iranian conflict lacks is an attack from Iran on U.S. soil or American military or civilians abroad. Without those events and if Trump bombs Iran, history indicates polling will be tough sledding into the midterms.
