I think that and the nuclear weapons will be the justification. I don't think that has much to do with the real reasons which may not be clear for some time

Given regime change is being discussed pretty openly, I'm not sure what pivot you're envisioning.

Perhaps we overplay a nuclear threat or something, or perhaps some factional dispute arises and our commitment expands to deal with it and we're in a quagmire. But I don't see another Iraq in terms of wholesale shifting, I just don't really know what it'd be.

Say what you want about Trump, true motivations are usually put out there by the administration. They may be mixed with BS (tariffs on Canada because of fentanyl), but it doesn't usually take long for MAGA to speak openly about what they actually want.

The intent is for this to be an open discussion where people can contribute their theories on what the justification and real reasons could be for a war with Iran. One that hopefully doesn't happen.

Not going to be much of a war. We're going to break a bunch of their important shite from the air and be done with it. No intention of employing ground troops other than maybe some specwar folks to call in the air strikes and sabotage stuff.

I don't think the hidden agenda if there is one is necessarily nefarious. It may just be a tough sell to the public. I don't think Venezuela had much to do with drug trafficking but it gave them some plausible cover.

I think the real reason might simply be to weaken the Eastern axis of Iran/Russia/China and to test the waters of their military capabilities.

To save our so called 'greatest ally' i suppose.

If we can have an impact with a more surgical operation that would obviously be the preference.
