FDA chief Marty Makary says 'everything should be over-the-counter
I agree. Do away with PBMs and pharmacy prescription insurance. Everything except narcotics OTC and cash price.

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary told CNBC that he believes "everything should be over-the-counter" unless a drug is unsafe, addictive or requires monitoring – doubling down on a push that some in the pharmaceutical industry have questioned.
In an interview on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Makary said the FDA's aims to make changes this year that allow more companies to make their prescription medicines available over-the-counter, or OTC. He noted that the agency is going through "the proper regulatory processes" to update OTC monographs – the rulebooks that determine which drugs can be sold without a prescription.

I don’t see how he is a “baw.” I was expecting a New Iberia haircut, farmers tan, or a jacked up truck.

We need to get the pharma commercials off tv

Feels a bit click-baity given this is the thread title:
While this is quoted in the post:
Regardless what some may think, pharmacists play a critical role in managing patient care.

What does that do to insurance coverage though? My meds cost $3k to $6k per month (rinvoq).

To me the issues isn't people acquiring and taking individual drugs. Take this pill for whatever and it's perfectly fine.
However, it's the drug interactions I'm more worried about. Take pill X and mix it will pill Y and it will mess you up. The average person would have trouble sorting that out...

This would affect MDs more than pharmacists.
No need to pay for visit for a check up to refill a statin or bp med. Just head to the pharmacy to buy

A good pharmacist is awesome and often more helpful than a doctor. Why can't I just get a flu test at CVS and grab some Xofluza on the spot? Makes no sense.
ETA: It looks like a few states do offer this, but not CVS in Louisiana yet.

Who needs to go the Dr's office after an initial diagnosis? Telemedicine is the answer. WAY easier than trying to arrange an office visit.

This would make it much easier to get gender reassignment medicine. MAHA is going woke

And AI should have replaced pharmacists yesterday.

Pharmacists do but if things go OTC treat them like Sudafed. It’s otc but you need to get it from the pharmacist.
They his hurts doctors more than anything.

Because a TikTok video going around said this years flu is “the worst ever” and people went and purchased every single one “just in case.”

I agree with this 1000%. There’s all kinds of stuff that requires a script that is unnecessary.

i agree for most things. and AI can do a lot of the cross drug analysis for you. but normal everyday cold or flu or even high cholesterol...i shouldnt have to go in. telemed with blood work is all that should be required
also i shouldnt have to jump through hoops if i feel like i need something. shouldnt have to beg the doctor

Didn’t like your primary telling you to drink more water, eat more fiber and exercise?

So that’s almost every drug
I mean you can’t have blood pressure meds out there, people will take way too many and mix and match
The safer stuff is already OTC anyway like for GERD.
Blood thinners won’t be OTC. Antibiotics won’t be. God the spike in resistance would be crazy.

True, but that's still on the doctors for writing scripts without a positive flu test. My way would prevent that entirely.

Thats not a good idea.

There’s no script involved with OTC?
