Some people also do not eat meat on Ash Wednesday?

What is your go to on the road?

Filet O Fish from McDonalds or BK “Big” Fish or one of the other “fish” sandwiches out there.

Back in the day, you didn’t need to get ashes at the church, you just went to the family ash tray and did the cross thing on your own forehead without a blessing of course.

Now, you still went to church as a good catholic should to receive the ashes.

Believe it or not, some churches do a drive up to get ashes. Don't even get out your car.

As for me, I don't partake in the whole Lent thing since I basically walked away from organized religion after suffering the Catholic faith in my youth.

Don't forget to leave your ashes on your forehead all day so we know you're Catholic.

For those that do participate in lent, I'm curious as to what you get out of it? I understand what it is, I am just asking on a more personal level. What does it do for you personally or what do you hope to obtain from it?

Serious question, not judging.

Well, one thing's for sure, when you find 4 Baptists together, you'll always find a fifth.

So much of the popular conception is about "giving up" something. If that something is holding you back then, good. But for most the sacrifice is less than cosmetic. The point of Lent is really to prepare for Easter and as such, we probably should engage in more self reflection about ourselves and the behaviors in particular that end us to sin.

So give up meat on Fridays and today, it's tradition but it isn't going to do much of anything in your spiritual situation.
