Louisiana entrepreneur proposes Spirit Airlines hub for New Orleans

John Miller, founder of the Country Club of Louisiana, is pitching investors on acquiring Spirit Airlines and establishing a hub in New Orleans.
Miller has researched airline opportunities for 20 years and sees Spirit’s current low stock price as an opportunity to acquire and restructure the company.
“The first thing you’re going to do is remove some seats. You know how easy that is? And then you’re going to come up with a reasonable pricing system. We are not going to be able to move it to New Orleans right away, We have some improvements to do,” Miller said.
Miller said potential locations for a Spirit hub in New Orleans range from a new terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to a new airport on the West Bank.
For now, Miller said he must sell investors on the concept before infrastructure development can proceed.

One of my personal rules for investing is I won't buy stock in a company that I refuse to buy/use their product or service.

As people get pissed off at Southwest, you have to wonder if some of them will turn to Spirit.
I think Spirit really needed to merge with Frontier.

Spirit needs to start a 'Street Beefs' type YouTube channel for their customers showcasing all the fights.

Spirit’s business model is what is killing them. You can’t make money selling $40 tickets. You are better off charging $250 and promoting no bag or seat selection fees.
Make people feel they are actually guests and not cattle who get nickel and dimed.
It also helps to run a route network that makes sense.

Airline stocks historically have not been good investments.

After COVID I watched AAL stock increasing and for a moment thought I could be a day trader and bought a 1000 shares over $20 a share to make a quick thousand bucks and then dump it. Well, I bought at the peak and am still waiting to break even so I can dump it. I will never buy airline stock again or think I can make money as a day trader.

Didn’t Biden’s DOJ prevent this?

I’ll try to find a source, but I read somewhere that tin all of airline history- no net money has been made.

“There is no tougher job in corporate America than running an airline: Despite the huge amounts of equity capital that have been injected into it, the industry, in aggregate, has posted a net loss since its birth after Kitty Hawk.”

“When Richard Branson, the wealthy owner of Virgin Atlantic Airways, was asked how to become a millionaire, he had a quick answer: "There's really nothing to it. Start as a billionaire and then buy an airline."

I don’t know anything about running an airline but I know that my clients who own planes end up spending multiples more than they thought they would…

He went waaaaaaay out in saying he sees moving Spirit's HQ to New Orleans as the key to making New Orleans the next Singapore.
Spirit is known for two things: cheap tickets and shitty service. One of those things will draw business, the other pushes it away. Spirit's history has shown that even cheap flights can't combat poor service, so unless his first focus is on fixing those service issues then he's just going to be burning money.

So is the current home of Spirit Airlines considered a Singapore?
