As for his performance, Levine clarifies, “I didn’t play him as being gay or trans. I think he was just a fricked-up heterosexual man. That’s what I was doing.”

One of the stupider things right now.
Part of the whole point is that he WANTS to be transexual. He is not, and that is part of his psychoses.
They explicitly say repeatedly that he is not trans.

The funny thing is, both the movie and the book make it clear that the main antagonist wasn't really a tranny, though he wanted to be.

No he got being fricked up right
, fits right into the mentally ill category

Yeah, and maybe John Wayne should regret playing an Asian in "The Conqueror".
Maybe Warner Oland, a Swedish/American actor should come back from the grave and denounce his portrayal of the Chinese detective Charlie Chan.
Or how about all the white actors who portrayed Native Americans for decades in Hollywood. Hell, just yesterday I saw an episode of "Gunsmoke" where Leonard Nimoy played a Piute Indian but still managed to speak exactly like his later character "Spock".
frick apologizing for a 15 minute role in a movie made over 35 years ago.

How does he not know that? That is wild.
Also, does he not realize it was based on a book. What a doofus.

I thought we had moved past apologizing to the trannies? Oh well.

The “trans” that we have today is not anything like what it was back then. You were a “transvestite” or “trans-sexual”…or a “cross dresser.” Everyone understood that this was a person that liked to dress up like the other sex but nobody, including the trans person, believed that they are actually a different gender or sex than how they were born. The whole premise today, which is absurd, didn’t even exist back then.

Lost respect for him and his deep voice. Trannies are indeed mentally ill.
Bottom line.
Bottom line.

I think he is fibbing here.

Go listen to the stooges on The Rewatchables try to get through the their Ace Ventura podcast. Genuinly don't know how they did it because the film is so "problematic."

Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs was a favorable portrayal of trannies. He didn't commit mass murders of children.

But it isn't entirely inaccurate.

Which tends to be the case a disproportionate amount of time.

This isn’t true.

Eh, that doesn't really strike me as problematic because the character isn't "trans" - they had a sex change as a method of hiding.
That said, if Ace Ventura was trying to be anything other than an absurdist comedy, one would then question how the character became head of a police department in a major city without a background check coming back with huge holes in it. I could see them getting a lot of jobs, but one would hope that - even back then - your police chief was vetted at least a LITTLE.

What isn’t true? There are always exceptions, but for the most part, that’s how it was.
